Well it says

Last time was a total
success but campaign finance laws prevented us from making the
donation. This time we improved things and set the bar pretty high.

You don't need to be a student to join the group or donate with them. What they have you do now is donate on Ron's official site, then go back to their site and enter in how much you donated, that way they can keep track. I think it's a pretty good idea, showing how much was raised, without having to wait for Ron's campaign team to do it on Ron's site.

well, this one goes through a program to dr. pauls site. you make the direct donation to www.ronpaul2008.com and the ticker keeps the total.
