If we could buy 1000 acres or more, who would join us?

on our land, we have wooded areas where we hunt game. we have a pond full of fish. cleared land for farming, we have three water wells, herd of cattle, several barns, farm equipment and three houses.
this is the kind of place i wish everyone could go too.

Is that down in cajun country?

our family land is most the land south of the highway, east of the first baptist church on the map- stops around O'Quin Loop (that's where all the o'quinns live.

edit: when i talk about the minarchist type paradise i grew up in- this is where that Eden lies.
its also where a man was hung for blowing the face off of another man's hunting dog.
there was also a land dispute, that ended up with an assembly of god church being cut in half, literally.

I was thinking about putting together a book on the stories of lone pine. chapter 1, blood bend :)

Lone Pine is the most northern settlement of Acadiana, which is, i guess, cajun country.
But people in Lone Pine aren't like people from mamou or ville platte. and apparenelty, from what i'm told- we have a unique accent. unlike any other groups in louisiana. i can't tell obviously. but that has been said.

Cajun accents are cool. Those pics remind me of a movie I once saw that took place somewhere in Acadiana...I can't remember the name of it.

well, if anyone is looking to relocate to a place like this- there is one home for sell that is across the highway from my parent's house.
my cousin and her husband are the ones who built it. they moved, and another gentleman bought it expecting a wife. things went south, and now he wants to sell it- i'd buy it, but its out of my price range. its a really nice big house with a dock that goes to a bayou that serves as a backyard.
if anyone is seriously interested in getting away from government freaks and can afford to buy a nice home, pm me and i'll get you in touch with the guy.
sorry, i don't have pics available, but can get some if people want them.

I'm guessing theres alligators there

those are taken care of... *cough*
not that i'm admitting to ever knowing about the harvesting of said animal...
but really, in 34 years, there have been 2 alligators that have made it this far north. both were taken care of, and all parts were put to use.

and to add, there are no stores or anything in lone pine.
all produce is sold at farmer's market in bunkie. about 10-15 miles away.
you can get all supply you need from bunkie. no need to clutter the landscape of lone pine with retail outlets.
though there have been some attempts at opening a general store, a lower education communal school, and volunteer fire department.
since none of the above is mandated because there is no government of lone pine. those services come and go as people feel they are needed. voluntarily.
lone pine has two churches, first baptist, and assembly of god. AoG has a full band. the first baptist choir will make you feel like you are an american idol.
if you want gossip, attend service 45 minutes early.

mmmm gator tail

I really encourage you to continue on this plan. If I didn't have a thorough and in place bug out plan/option, I would at least be on board enough to be considering it pending details unfolding.

In fact, even though I am not "in" I'd love to see how things work out for you (obviously not asking for location or an such info, just generalities, challenges, etc.)

not sure if this is for OP or me-
but i have my sights set on a 20 acre lot that will come up for sale at the beginning of next year.
i could just move onto family land, and that is an option. but i'd like to have a piece of land i earned by work, not by birthright.

just had a flashback of living in a small town in east Texas

I wrote a thread the other day asking for your top 10 states in which to live: http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?421667-Please-rank-the-top-10-states-in-which-to-live

I did it because Mark and I have pretty much decided we can't live in Cali anymore, so we're going to move as many of our family members as want to leave, to another state. Our efforts here have run their course, Cali is pretty much a police state now.

We've been invited to live in a 'free zone' of other like-minded Americans, but we really don't like the state, so we're not altogether sure if we want to go.

I'm throwing this idea out here just to get opinions on people banding together geographically and becoming self-reliant. When I mentioned it in another thread, I got this response:

To which I replied:

My reasoning is this: When, not if, the economic collapse is in full swing, I contend that the first victims will be those living off the dole, in densely populated areas. The gov't, in all its forms, will be preoccupied dealing with civil unrest, while those of us who have settled in unpopulated areas and are self-sustaining (for the most part), will be the last to be bothered with. We will NOT be in their cross-hairs.

Are they watching our types? Hell YES they are! I know this first hand. I have 3 extremely reliable contacts, and I know the liberty movement is on the watch list. HOWEVER, they are watching to see if we intend to organize a violent uprising or insurrection - and we're definitely not. We do have activists in our movement who practice civil disobedience to help bring awareness to the cause of liberty, but we are overwhelmingly in favor of NAP.

I believe their goal is to slowly boil the frog, slowly take over everything and turn us all into employees of the gov't (serfs). Although, they will continue to attempt to present the façade of free enterprise, and individual freedom. I don't think tptb really want an all out war with American citizenry, they'd rather do this incrementally (certain psychopathic police forces notwithstanding). However, they are gearing up for civil unrest on a massive scale because of the inevitable economic collapse.

So, it is with this analogy, that I believe our kind will have a better chance at survival, if we band together while we still can. Their focus will not be on those who are quietly living out their lives and not requiring help from them. Not for a long while, anyway. If we are scattered, as we are now, and martial law goes into effect your area, you will be alone, and not with your liberty family.

Thoughts?

Reminds me of the Peak oil scenario. Unfortunately energy or economics only cooperation will solve this crisis. I know governments are generally ineffective if they aren't serious about this.

I had to post this one Deb..its only a couple of acres but the location is called Liberty Hill.

http://austin.craigslist.org/reo/3922842822.html

This post reminded me of this area near where I grew up. The hills between highway 39 (Liberty Hill Rd.) and Mecca Pike are known as the knobs. Last I heard, even the Sheriff's Deputies won't go driving around in there after dark. If I were going to 'gulch it', this is where I'd go. My wife's ancestors came out of there in the late 1800s. By that time, they were a mix of Pennsylvania Dutch and Cherokee. The story goes that the Dutch settlers came there to make whiskey after the Whiskey Rebellion. It's also a very mineral rich area.

Do they not go there after dark because of the terrain or the inhabitants?

Both. It would be an easy place for someone to get ambushed/disappeared. There are a lot of blind turns and a lot of folks who really don't want law enforcement nosing around. That said, it is a beautiful place. I've driven around in there quite a bit looking at property and never had a problem. You just need to mind the 'Private Property'/'Keep Out'/'Trespassers will be shot' signs.

Dueling banjos come to mind lol

For the record, that was North Georgia. ;)

The people up in the knobs used to make moonshine and grow a lot of pot. Now, from what I hear, they're making meth because the 'shine don't sell' and 'the birds' are always flying over looking for pot.

Haha..I know..kidding. my ex in laws lived right where Deliverance was filmed. Im not too crazy about moving anywhere near meth labs either.

I like the idea of a bunch of like minded folks occupying / defending an area as a liberty hub but I agree it's kind of asking for unwanted interference. I've also considered having a *family homestead* sort of property in the near future. It would be great if there were a small collection of these liberty homesteads in the same neighborhood.

We are in the boat of - older, health hindered folks that it would not be feasible to go all pioneer style encampment.. especially with hills/mountains. Hubby is an amputee.. hard to walk hills and valleys with a prosthetic so only a flat land area (snow and ice-less too) with only a handful of family younger than we are that would participate.
Neither of us are terribly *able bodied* but we have our own skill sets that would be helpful in a community environment.

I have, off and on, contemplated going back to school for nursing or something medical. I end up talking myself out of it because structured learning just doesn't sit well with me - opting to read everything I can and accumulate supplies when possible for health concerns.
