If we could buy 1000 acres or more, who would join us?

What is that..one bite? Lol. I would eat it if I had to but I could be a vegetarian easily except for the occasional craving for a cheeseburger...and bacon. :)

Nah, about 2....

But I'll gorge myself on a delicacy...

Not much of a hunter..or into game and fowl. I went on a date with this guy when I was a teen and he drove us out to some country road, got a rifle out of the trunk and proceeded to start randomly shooting cottontails for no reason..I think it scarred me for life lol. But I can eat my weight in raw fruits and veggies. I just have to have my occasional Tex Mex and chili fix.

Did you kick him in the nuts for that?

If you are looking for land that already has buildings, here are some.

319.5 acres
$419,000
taxes $2,513
2615sqft
Off the grid living is already set up, including wood for heat and solar for electric.

Over 315 acres of ridgeline and mountainside woodlands with about 20 acres of pasture offering total seclusion and westerly views here and there yet just 15 minutes from the university town of Plymouth, NH. Property includes 2, 615sf. 3BR, 1B log homes with additions, garage, barn, sugar shack and outbuildings as well as ownership of the private access road. Near snowmobile and ATV trails. Wood boiler for radiant in-floor heat and hot water, wood stove, and state-approved 3BR septic system. Electricity by existing solar array or your generator. Mountain streams flow year round across the property.

As for the whole idea. It isn't easy to just split up land. You typically have to get approval from some one or some board. Maybe more than 1 board. Similar ideas to this have been talked about before. 1 of them was very humorous. It was called Paulville and planed for the middle of no where in Texas. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paulville,_Texas

We'd have to raise money for that, and make sure it could be broken up into parcels for sale. Oh, it would need to be nowhere near the NAFTA superhighway, they're currently stealing land to build.

Its not...that's further southeast of there but I dont know if the plan to build tollroads in Texas is still in play. There are a lot of rivers and natural springs in the area as well as a few lakes.

The first consideration would need to be how many can realistically commit and afford it. As much as I really want to do it, it would be hard to get my husband on board but I could maybe swing a loan for an acre or two depending on cost and location, I am just not in position to leave my job for a while yet. I had already been thinking about some land whether he's on board with it or not. He doesn't buy into the shtf scenario and his parents live in Canada so he knows he has a place to go if he ever had to. He really doesn't get the concept of why I want to have my own land.

I've gotten PMs from people in the same boat, spouse not on board. I think that will eventually change.

Did you read the OP? I explain my reasoning as to why we wouldn't be in the crosshairs.

I did read your OP. It just doesn't seem like it would involve much manpower to handle 50 or so air "small" strikes over North America. Couldn't a couple of fighter planes get the job done in in a couple of days? While the rest of our throngs of troops are patrolling the urban locations?

To what end? As I stated, they will be busy with all the civil unrest. Think Katrina 300 fold. If we're quietly living and thriving on our own parcels, in a remote area (but close enough to a hospital, etc.), we won't be giving them any reason to target us. They are watching for insurrection. We will be minding our own business.

We will be more concerned with keeping looters away from us. When the shtf they will be roaming the countryside when theres nothing left in the cities.

To eliminate the possibility of future conflicts? Easily and early? If I were big brother, I would not feel comfortable with hundreds of groups of armed militia who absolutely loathe me entrenched in the rural countryside. Maybe the government won't lift a finger to help the urban areas. Maybe they will simply create perimeters and check points and let them implode. Maybe they will try to control the rural areas as a stable alternative. Which might mean eliminating potential hot spots. Who knows? I suppose we're talking about the degree of civil unrest.

In which you will have to decide where you'd rather be.

I wish I could give out lots of land in the place i'm going- but i don't have control over the family 1000acres, and most of the people there generally aren't selling property.

on our land, we have wooded areas where we hunt game. we have a pond full of fish. cleared land for farming, we have three water wells, herd of cattle, several barns, farm equipment and three houses.
this is the kind of place i wish everyone could go too.

Awesome.

if there was a way i could give everyone on this board, a piece of this kinda home- i would.
the only obstacle is money enough to buy up the property. which is kinda the barrier to all the previous ideas.
growing up, i never knew how lucky i was until i moved on and about this planet. there was no where better than the place i was born.
