If mandatory service is slavery, what about jury duty?

A follower of His Worshipfulness, Barack Obama the Highest used this as a way to say that mandatory service is not slavery because what about jury duty... so ya, what about jury duty? Don't we need a jury? Anarcho-capitalists need not post in this tread.

$12 a day or whatever it is now is not payment, and jurors should be paid fairly. that can be a secondary issue for us.

if jurors were fairly paid then there would be a better cross section instead of the imbalance of government employees now.

Jury duty is always optional in the sense that when questioned about whether you will apply the law even if you disagree with the law, all you have to do is assert your constitutional right and duty as defined by the first supreme court and earlier precedent, to judge not simply the facts but the law in question as well. At that point you will certainly be stricken by the prosecution if not dismissed by the judge 'for cause.' And your fellow prospective jurors will get some education as well.

But if you wish to serve and actually sit in judgment of the facts and the law, which I'd highly recommend when the opportunity arises, then you need to keep a lid on the sitting in judgment of the law part.

Yeah, I realize that now. I failed on holding my tongue in my last jury call for a drug charge case, a lawyer and I were two lone outspoken objectors to the drug laws question.

Then they say "you get paid for your service too, it's just mandatory"

.......

How could you get an unbiased "jury of peers" without jury duty? I'm sure someone here has an idea on that, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

I think Jury Duty could be kind of fun actually...though I'm probably wrong...and that $12 a day just does not cut it.

If should be a volunteer service or compensated equal to or greater than ones day job.

Human Jury? Why, a computer program could just say GUILTY every time and always be up-to-date on the latest laws and regulations. The trains would always run on time, every time!

Shortly, after an election take your name off the voter registration list and then you won't be called.

Jury duty is not quite slavery, but rather close. You could easily get out of jury duty, but it is still very much involuntary. If you were to answer honestly and they saw you fit, you had no way out of it but to lie. A voluntary jury would be nice to see, but I'm not sure how exactly that would work. I can't see people just deciding to get paid dirt to go deal with a bunch of fools on a jury. Hard one to figure out. Even if you paid people their exact wages or more, I can't imagine people would just come for the "fun" of it, especially those that are younger. The elderly might not mind though. lol...idk.

trial by a jury of your peers is important. Here you get paid $5 per full day of Jury duty pluse $3.60 per mile you had to go to the court house for gas.

Jury duty is slavery. Anyone who says otherwise doest know what slavery is.

UPDATE: Even if you gat paid, it is still slavery. The African slaves received food and housing. Were they not slaves because they received some form of compensation?

If you understand law, nothing.

I you can read, California's "Summons for Jury Service" states, "failure to respond to this summons will subject you to a fine, a jail term, or both". Hardly seems voluntary and more like a threat.

Ya, I know how laws are worded. Have you gone to a law library? Or are you relying on what you read in the MSM or on the Internet?

Look at the Acts the legislature passed, and if that isn't clear, look at the defined terms in the statues.

Jury duty is a civic duty. Anybody should be honored to be able to take part in our justice system at such a level. Just my opinion.
