If Jim DeMint lived in your state and was running for Senate election/reelection.....

Would you vote for Jim DeMint?

Just to remind everyone, Rand Paul has great respect for Jim DeMint (which I think everyone knows).

But it is not just him. The Southern Avenger is also a big fan of DeMint, and I really think DeMint is someone who RP would endorse, so I think Ron Paul would actually encourage his supporters to vote for DeMint. After all, he endorsed Michele Bachmann in 2008, who is similar to DeMint on fiscal issues but is much more of a neocon.

Judge Napolitano has also had DeMint on Freedom Watch.

Yes because in terms of the U.S Senate he is one of the best, which isn't saying a lot but he's worth keeping.

Also, if I met him as a constituent I would tell him to his face to stop supporting wars and insist on congressional authority and a declaration

I don't class DeMint as a 'bad' neocon though, I think he's someone who can and will change his mind. He must be smart enough to know that fiscal conservatism has to apply to defense and overseas budgets

I've been going to the same auto mechanic for 6 years. He never actually does a good repair job and he charges $300.00 per hour. But I believe he will be a good mechanic someday so I'll keep going to him and pay alot of money. I believe he's smart enough to be a good mechanic someday.

(What if we held politicans and mechanic to the same standards?)

that's not comparable when you consider how rotten the US Senate is whereas there are a lot of good and competent mechanics to choose from, whether we like it or not DeMint is one of the best of a seriously and perennially - for at least 100 years - bought off bad bunch. Rand Paul of course will be the best when he gets there.

Most likely. He is a shade better than the average neo-con. Usually in Senate races there are several Third Party candidates, though.

This is true. I don't consider him to be a libertarian candidate by any means, but an honest one. I never have faith in these guys, but I believe (for now) he honestly believes what he does will improve the country. I get the vibe that he isn't completely bought by the bankers and special interests like the mainstream neo-cons are. If I was actually voting, I'd do a ton of research first though, tracing donations to his campaign and whatnot. But hypothetically, if there were no good third party candidates, he'd get my vote.

He couldn't endorse anyone else but Bachmann in 2008 because of the incumbent rule. I understand what you're saying, that he could have just stayed out of it, but Bachmann is just plain terrible. How is Bachmann more of a neocon? DeMint and her share the same views on foreign policy, I see no differentiation.

DeMint was on Freedom Watch to discuss auditing the Fed, that's it. If I remember correctly (and please, someone correct me if I'm wrong), he said "this is something Ron Paul is actually right about."

What has he changed his mind on? He doesn't seem changed from 1999. He is pro-war and if it comes down to his vote with the troops being funded or not, he will vote to spend whatever money necessary. He has never wavered in his support for Iraq or Afghanistan that I can tell.

Nancy Pelosi is pretty honest about her agenda as well, pass everything Obama wants. She was pretty truthful when she said "Pass the health care bill so you can find out what's in it."

YouTube - Pelosi: we have to pass the health care bill so that you can find out what is in it

The Democrats were honest about wanting to shove a health care bill through, no matter how much of the country was against it. You essentially agree with my position, he is a tad better than your average neo-con, but if I had a Third Party alternative, I would not be voting for him. He is the lesser of two evils in my book.
