Ideas how to use football to gain support in Southern states.

I am a Ron Paul supporter from GA, a musician, and also a huge college football fan.

Being from the South I know exactly how passionate people here get for their teams, bands they love, and even politicians they support. They buy memorbilia, travel in large numbers, and they arent shy about sharing their opinions. These are all things that the Ron Paul campaign can tap into.

I think Ive stumbled on a few solid ideas on how to combine my love of the three to help the campaign effort. So here goes:

We need graphic designers to make signs with content like "UGA Fans 4 Ron Paul" or "LSU Fans 4 Ron Paul". Or "Kiss fans for Ron Paul" etc.

We can then tailgate or just set up somewhere conspicuous at events like concerts and football games. There we could hand out voter registration cards or Ron Paul literature (which can also be customized to highlight issues specific to each state or region).

College football games specifically should be targeted in the Southeast just on the sheer number of people that attend them. Another reason is that you are essentially getting "two states in one".

Anyway, feel free to give feedback or expound on the idea.

and check out my pages to get involved in anything i might be doing in my neck of the woods. USA!

I was just thinking the same thing

I just came here to propose the same idea...

With hot dogs going on sale (last year they were $0.99 a pack for ballpark at Marsh) for labor day coming up if 4-6 people got together and each chipped in $30-$50 and brought some handouts and CAM-8s (the primary ballot petition in Indiana) to collect signatures... we could go a long way toward getting signatures to get Ron Paul on the ballot, identify supporters, and provide some support for YALs or CRs on campus in preparation for next spring. We just need a few grads or other supporters willing to grill out and have a good time with some young people.

Last cycle, we did Ron Paul sign bombs in Tallahassee when FSU had a home game the next day. We all met up in my garage and hand painted hundreds of signs that we went and plastered down every major road that fans came in on.

Have volunteers attend University of Iowa, Iowa State, and South Carolina football games and hand out flyers and hold up signs.

50-100 Ron Paul supporters (the more the better and safer) and a 40 foot Ron Paul banner hanging from the parking garage. or somewhere near the Stadium entrance.

I partake in a football pool (pooltrackers.com) and I changed my public-facing ID: (my name) - Ron Paul 4 Pres. Easy although only a few dozen will see this (they aren't people I otherwise know for the most part).

Hey I go to ASU! Never saw that banner though when did you guys put it up? During a football game?

You're a pretty good musician! Wanna email me your "the fourth trumpet" song? :)

Baseball now, Football and Hockey soon. Many people enjoy chating about their team and sport on message boards. Most of the ones I've visited have a political Thread. If not you could always start one. Sports fans can be very argumentative so go easy and win them over.

Hit up the college football games.

There are many, many college football teams in Florida...

UNLV, U of Nevada, U of NH, U of Iowa, Iowa State, U of Florida, Florida State, USF, UCF, FIU, Miami University, South Carolina... and more

A good technique the Leadership Institute teaches (http://www.leadershipinstitute.org/training/ ) for sports events is to print up information about the game, such as coaches/players/numbers of both teams, info about the teams(history, this years record etc.), mascots.. Future schedule for games, etc. Hand this out at the gate, and put your advertisement/message on the back. It would be best if you had a legitimate organization, like your schools "Students for Ron Paul" or similar. Make sure you include a way for folks to get in touch with you to participate, phone, e-mail, meetup.com, etc..

PM me for additional techniques if you have 5 or 6 folks available, and won't be able to attend a LI or YAL training.

I'm sure YAL will be teaching this along with other techniques at their Campaign Bootcamps discussed here;
