IDEA! Collectively writing a grassroots speech and filming all of us reading it

Sweet! I'm glad you all are down for this! So here's what we have so far:

Volunteers to record themselves:
1. ForLiberty2012
2. kah13176
3. growburn13
4. eleganz
5. BamaAla
6. TexasJake
7. Shelton88
8. FluxCapacitor
9. JoshLowry
10. CaptainAmerica
11. Jackie Treehorn
12. vroomery
13. zbro90
14. josiahkeller

Speech editing:
1. osan
2. Matthew Zak

Video Editing:
1. AdamT

As mentioned above, the requirements for this video will be recorded in 720p with a frame rate of 30p or 24p. If you don't have that capability, someone you know HAS to have it. Just post a request to your facebook friends, or ask coworkers, or whatever.

Then, we can do a series of videos:

1. Writing our own speech and recording it
2. Using one of Ron Paul's speeches and reading it
3. Showing career specific support (doctor, veteran, fireman, teacher, etc.)

We'll focus on one at a time, starting with the first. I am going to post my "rough draft" of this speech tonight on this thread. I encourage anyone else to do this as well, and we could all vote on which one we like the most, as far as the message, and start nitpicking it from there.

LETS DO THIS!!!!

Here's my "Rough" draft. Probably can be longer... with more points added, but I'm a straight to the point kind of person. Critique all you want!

If you’re anti-war, vote for Ron Paul. He wants to bring all of the troops home now! He’s the ONLY (right?) Republican candidate that wants to end our unsustainable empire across the world, then there’s Obama who broke his promise to bring the troops home [roll short clip of this], and he even started an unconstitutional and undeclared war in Libya. However, Ron Paul still believes in a strong national defense and protecting our borders. Even if you believe we should be policing the world, we CANNOT afford to sustain our empire that’s been created – costing trillions of tax dollars, sending us closer to a financial collapse.
If you think our government spending is out of control, vote for Ron Paul. Over the course of his 12 terms in Congress, he has NEVER voted for a tax increase nor has he voted to raise the debt ceiling…. Ever! We are in a crisis and we need someone who will simply say “no” to more spending… or else this country is going to go bankrupt. You may disagree – however, this debt is at a breaking point – If the interest rate on our debt is raised to levels it reached in the 80s, we will literally spend every dime of tax revenue on interest alone – that’s how serious this is.
If you agree with what Ron Paul stands for, vote for him! He is the leading voice, and has been for over 30 years, for personal liberties, peace, and limited government… and he’s also been the most consistent. He is not your standard politician that will vote for political position or for votes. He strictly follows the constitution and ALWAYS votes to protects our rights. As a fellow American and as a person that cares about this great country we call the United States of America, I invite you to join the revolution. We can make this happen. We have a duty to our country and to the rest of the world – to set the example, to restore peace…. To restore America in 2012. Vote for Ron Paul!!!

I like the "I am Ron Paul" idea. I'm going to throw something else out there. Do y'all remember his official campaign list of things he's never done?

"Ron Paul has never voted to raise taxes, never took the Congressional pension" etc.

How about a video that boasts about all of the wonderful things RP has a record for without RP's name in front of each sentence? Having evidence is much stronger than promises.

Accentuate the positive!

and

"Vote Ron Paul in the Republican Primary"

I have a suggestion: (forgive me if it's already been mentioned in this thread)

I think one person should record the whole thing, while heavy emphasis on voice inflection, and then post it to the rest of us with each sentence or sentence segment accompanied by a video volunteers name in the corner. Then, when everyone records their separate part they try to match to the best of their ability the original voice inflections. This way the end result will sound amazingly natural.

Oh and "I invite you" towards the end should be recording by an irrestistibly cute child.

If there are any soldiers here, could we get one or 2 to read the speech in full uniform? They could speak the lines about "more donations from active military than all other candidates combined."

Wouldn't the 'What if...' speech be great material for that?

Although its a great speech, I would vote against this one. I think we need it to be themed around freedom... with an American song like O'beautiful or something...jmho! We want people to be moved.

These are all good points but I didn't really feel any kind of flow to it...a thought process if you will. For Dr. Paul, the message has always revolved around liberty and i think that's crucial because it's the backbone to every single issue. I think it would be cool to link each position back to that.

Also, the term "anti war" is probably not a great term to use even though its not a bad policy. Something like "If you oppose a foreign policy of policing the world and nation building, vote Ron Paul."

I'm involved in forensics (competitive HS speech and debate), and I'm game for editing/refining (and possibly reading) a speech. Great idea, OP!

I agree--great idea. Pro-peace is always better than anti-war. IMO

Looks like the idea's building

I like the above idea. But for time, how about something even simpler: "If you want to bring our troops home, vote Ron Paul"

This is an anonymous letter from when the Revolution was struggling... A friend of mine who is currently serving in Afghanistan (he posts here as army_officer before he was deployed) paraphrased the letter for today... Maybe this would make a good speech for us to read:

Those dedicated to the cause of liberty: Your exertions in the cause of freedom, guided by wisdom and animated by zeal and courage, have gained you the love and confidence of your grateful countrymen; and they look to you, who are experienced veterans, and trust that you will still be the guardians of America. As I have the honor to be an American, and one among the free millions, who are defended by your valor, I would pay the tribute of thanks, and express my gratitude, while I solicit you to continue in your present honorable and important station. I doubt not America will always find enough of her sons and daughters ready to flock to her standard, and support her freedom; but experience proves that experienced soldiers are more capable of performing the duties of the revolution, and better qualified to face the enemy, than others; and therefore every friend of America will be desirous that most of the men and women who compose the present Army of Liberty may continue in the service of their country until “liberty, peace, and safety” are established once again.

Although your private concerns may call for your assistance at home, yet the voice of your country is still louder, and it is painful to heroic minds to quit the duty when liberty calls, and the voice of injured millions cries “to arms! to arms” Never was a cause more important or glorious then that which you are engaged in; not only your wives, husbands, or your children, and distant posterity, but humanity at large, the world of mankind, are interested in it; for if tyranny should prevail in this great country, we may expect liberty will expire throughout the world. Therefore, more human glory and happiness may depend upon your exertions than every yet depended upon any of the true Americans left. “He that is a soldier in defense of such a cause needs no title; his post is a post of honor, and although not an emperor, yet he shall wear a crown – of glory – and blessed will be his memory!”

The savage and brutal barbarity of our enemies in burning our Constitution from their minds by their actions, is a full demonstration that there is not the least remains of virtue, wisdom, or humanity, in the bowels of Washington; and that they are fully determined with word and deed, fire and sword, to butcher and destroy, beggar and enslave the whole American people. Let us perpetuate our liberties and live as free peoples once again

Notwithstanding the many difficulties we have to encounter, and the rage of the merciless enemies to freedom and liberty, we have a glorious prospect before us, big with everything good and great. The further we hearken back to the memory of true independence, our prospects will expand and brighten, and a free Republic will soon complete our happiness.

Let us remember what America really is and let us take back our liberty.
