I was just called a sexist and a racist for proving someone else(Ron Paul) wasn't a sexist and a racist even though I am married to a hispanic woman, best friends with many minorities, and my wife is the bread winner in our relationship.

Logic #1.

This was a politically motivated conversation btw, and is further evidence to me that the average voter is blinded by by the polarization of the two party system and the way of thinking that goes along with that. Instead of looking at the truth, people call names and make personal attacks instead of talking about the issues and looking for common ground and solutions.

The conversation:

Her:
In case anyone cares about my political affiliations, I will not be voting for anyone that aims to deliberately dismantle women's rights, vilify the poor, pretend that institutionalized racism doesn't exist anymore, and continue the crusade to make gays seem subhuman. Soooo...not Republican.

ME:
OR you could vote for Ron Paul who doesn't represent any of that.

Her:
Ron Paul wants to reverse Roe v. Wade. Also, those newsletters

Me:
Ron Paul doesn't like Row vs Wade because it is not supported by the constitution. He wants states to decide. He also supports people going across state boarders if they insist on something their state doesn't provide.

The newsletters are none sense and have been debunked despite the refusal of the media to report it.

Newsletters debunked in two part series:

You will never find an audio or video clip of Ron Paul saying anything racist. Quite the contrary, Ron Paul has spoken out more so than anyone against the racist laws enforced by our gov't, including the racist war on drugs.

Her friend:
*referring to me* is a racist sexist bigot.

Her other friend:
I think following a libertarian model in which there are few federal regulations to help make the market a fair place for people to move up into the middle class, for small businesses to start, and to keep huge corporations and the prison-industrial complex from holding the majority of power and wealth in the country sort of falls under the umbrella of "pretending institutionalized racism doesn't exist."

ME:
Wow, some real out of touch comments here.

And LOL@ calling a guy who is married to a hispanic woman, who's best friends are a mix of minorities, a racist because he proves someone else isn't a racist.

Thinking in groups is racist.

Also, my wife is the bread winner in our marriage. I'm sexist.

Ending the war on drugs because it's racially charged is pretending that racism doesn't exist... I love the logic from you guys...

Please educate yourselves. Otherwise your perpetuate the problems of this country no matter what you believe.

What was it Mark Twain said about the uselessness of facts in the face of deeply entrenched opinion?

Personally, I would not have brought up Ron Paul as my first statement. If they don't like him, as she doesn't, then it would immediately pit her against you. But if you had talked to her a bit at first in a friendly manner, then subtly brought up RP, then it would of been received better. I think that before you bring up RP, you have to connect first, that way they are more open to hearing about RP after you have connected with them.

Not to mention, what you said last. That was a jab at them. I would never jab at anyone, it only puts them on the defensive and makes them further believe their point, since now it is getting personal.

random uncalled for video.

somebody should re-dub this video with a random Ron Paul remark. Like 'Do you know who Ron Paul is?' 'he's only the guy who predicted the housing collapse, is fighting for your freedom, and wants to end undeclared wars.' YOU ARE ALL SHEEP!!!

There would have been no dancing around the RP issue. I'm a blatant supporter and everyone on my facebook list knows it. :P

You know, it is in reading conversations like these that I wish I could clone certain people's abilities. I know several people that would've not only shut her down, but would have converted her...and even more beautifully, done it in very few words...

I'd say she's right about Ron wanting to dismantle women's rights. States shouldn't decide about abortion, individual women should.

Name calling and other forms of ridicule are the last refuge of the weak-minded, as well as being a favorite tactic of the Left. If they don't agree, they pigeon-hole you into some group, so they don't have to think for themselves.

FWIW, I'd wager some serious $$$ that racism will be a major tactic used by Obama against RP or whoever ends up being the GOP nominee.

If you ever challenge the status quo you're referred to as sexist, racist, terrorist, etc. It's much easier to throw out a label to attempt to discredit someone.

For the record, I don't believe 'racism' even really exists. People hate cultures, not races. It's why you have people that will claim to have a black friend but loathe the hip-hop culture.

Well I assure you that it does, and that some people think other races are inferior.
