I was 5 feet away from Rahm Emanuel yesterday!

So a friend of mine had 2 tickets for the Bulls game and asked me to go with him. During halftime we went out for a smoke and when we were coming back to our seats I look and notice a familiar face. At first I did a double take because I couldn't believe it and I turned to my friend who is politically aware and said "Holy shit! Look, it's Rahm Emanuel.

He was just casually walking around, I didn't see any security or anyone else around him. Nobody seemed to be recognizing him at first till I mentioned it to my friend, after which I noticed a couple of people coming up to him to talk and shake his hand.

I wasn't sure what I should do but I didn't feel like shaking hands with someone like him. Later I regretted not coming up to him and telling him that I hope he looses his mayoral bid because I was a Ron Paul old school conservative.

It was a pretty surreal experience being so close to the opposition...
 
I highly recommend confronting the opposition, as long as you can do it calmly and rationally. :)

I had the opportunity to confront my Congressman, Elijah Cummings, during the 2008 campaign. I'm generally a shy person, but this was right after he flip-flopped on the bailout vote, and I had to say something. So yeah, I was nervous, especially because he has such a commanding presence and, at the time, he was probably best known for dressing down drug-using baseball players. If this guy could reduce Mark McGwire and Roger Clemens to stuttering and evasiveness, what would he do to me?

Nevertheless, I went up to him and decided I would stand my ground. Looking back now, I'm surprised that I didn't tone down my rhetoric - I said the bill he voted for made Henry Paulson a financial dictator and that this merging of Big Business with Big Government was a huge step on the road to Fascism.

I braced for the response. To my surprise, he's the one who stuttered, who evaded, who got defensive. He didn't disagree with my inflammatory terminology. Instead of justifying his vote, he tried to turn the tables and ask, "What would you have done in my place?"

I doubt Cummings remembers this encounter, but I did learn something very important. As I approached him, I admit that I was a little bit fearful. As I left, I realized he was the one fearful of me. With the truth on our side, we never have to be afraid.

That said, I don't think I would have gone up to Rahm. He could have you killed. ;)

That's because 1) he didn't have a script this time and 2) he didn't have a handy congressional subpoena. BTW, your congressman now got a juicy appointment as ranking member of the oversight committee.
 
I will never believe it was coincidental that his brother headed up the then small production company that produced Bruno, and Bruno "punked" Ron right arounde the super duper Tuesday primaries when Obama needed the enthusiasm of the antiwar left to push him over the top with Hillary.

It may well have been a coincidence, but I refuse to believe it. It has always added an edge to my dislike of Rahm. (That his brother became head of William Morris agency after Obama ascended to the Oval office only made it worse.) The movie didn't come out until a year later, but I did wonder if it had anything to do with Ron suddenly focusing on his TX race. That was when the press started saying (falsely) that he had withdrawn from the race, as well.

Oh well, there are a lot of conspiracies I don't believe in. I guess this one is mine.....

You should have asked him how much he was enjoying America during his visit, and that it will be a shame to see him go back home to Israel.
Crying shame, really.
