I want the truth.

I am sure he knew what they were writing, and approved of the message. It is easy to back away from it saying others used your name, but it won't fly. You get a bounce from other racists, but when you try to run for office you can say "I didn't know."

Ron Paul is finished, but the platform is not. Time to find another candidate to pass the torch to. Best option, return the money that is left, drop out and make a great speech. Or stay in and drag the message into the ground and bury if forever.

If Ron Paul really cares about America, he will do this.

It's amazing to me how people have a blind eye to the other candidates and their scandals while holding up this weak one as a deal breaker for Ron Paul.

Hillary Clinton is the Scandal Queen and has done real damage to others in real time! America loves her!

Huckabee has had 14 ethics complaints and a volley of questions about his integrity, ranging from his management of campaign cash to his use of a nonprofit organization to subsidize his income to his destruction of state computer files on his way out of the governor’s office.

In 2006, it was discovered that Obama was involved in a suspicious real estate deal with an indicted political fundraiser, Antoin “Tony” Rezko. In 2007, more reports surfaced of deeper and suspicious business and political connections It was reported that just two months after he joined the Senate, Obama purchased $50,000 worth of stock in speculative companies whose major investors were his biggest campaign contributors. One of the companies was a biotech concern that benefited from legislation Obama pushed just two weeks after the senator purchased $5,000 of the company’s shares. Obama was also nabbed conducting campaign business in his Senate office, a violation of federal law.

You couldn't fit anymore skeltons in Rudy's closet.

Here's some McCain mud:

You fair weather supporters should just go back to your ivory towers and wait for the one true unstained messiah.

Ghandi

i didn't know this but it sure shows there are suckers in this world.

I take from this you didn't see the movie? With Ben Kingsley as Ghandi and directed by Richard Attenborough. You should see it if you can find a copy, it's very good. One of your own countrymen (assuming you are an American) P.T. Barnum the great showman/impresario, is famous for saying there is one born every minute. "We are like sheep without a shepherd." But God loves us all.

I'M AMERICA'S MAYOR AND I ENDORSE THIS SMEAR CAMPAIGN.

How am I supposed to handle low level racists within my organization?

How do I explain something an employee did to a client?

I say, "My sincerest apologies, sir. As the leader of this organization, I take full responsibility for this incident. I give you my assurances that this person is no longer with us, and we have taken other remedial steps to try to prevent it from happening in the future. I hope that we can look past this incident and continue to do business together."

This doesnt make me a racist despite my oversight responsibility, and my "association" with this bad person. It does show integrity and leadership by taking responsibility.

Stuff like this happens. Its unavoidable. There are bad people out there that do not let it be known until its too late.

WELL SAID!!!

Exactly

The racists are the ones spreading this garbage. The same ones who are cheerleading the killing of Arabs and the invasion of other countries.
How many of the children and babies that have been killed or maimed were terrorists?

I have always found that people who make accusations are actually projecting their own views on some one else.
They try to rationalize their own racism by scaring people into believing we have to kill all these people or they will come and kill us and take away our way of life.

Anyone remember WW11?

I agree 100%. Be suspicious of anyone in the republican party calling someone a racist. Based on the total neglect of the golf coast after and during Katrina, and the lack of outrage on the part of George W Bush. I think the lines are drawn. The republican PARTY has a racism problem.

Now Dr Paul is for smaller gov't and maybe his Katrina response would be similar in some ways. But Dr. Paul would be doing it on principle. Bush f***ed over the golf coast in the midst of a HUGE increase in gov't spending.

We have people in our party that want to put hispanics on trains and ship them back to Mexico. Has anyone done an economic analysis of this? Nobody is waiting to see if we are shooting ourselves in our own economic foot.

Give me a F***ing break.

This hurts Ron Paul, its fatal. I was able to convert liberals on the war issue, and by telling them he is a man of character. He knew about the newsletter, to say otherwise is just plain disingenuous. He can't be elected to anything outside of rural Texas now. Politics is about compromise, and this can't be repaired.
Its very sad because our country is on life support as I speak.

Don't be a fool. McCain "Hates gooks and always will." Huckabee said all AIDS patients should be quarantined and homosexuality is akin to pedophilia and necrophilia. Obama's church is racist and pledges an allegiance to Africa above all else. He has many quotes saying things in his books like "He was a little too white."

Don't kid yourself. Paul has deniability. If you don't believe it, then you have a decision to make, but make it fast we need to get back to business.

. . . using admittedly inflammatory language, but certainly no more inflammatory or personally offensive than much of what I read every day on this forum.

+ 1

Dr Paul has always attracted a good number of, er, . . . 'unusual' and forthright individuals.

Disclaimer: I agree with a lot of Ron Paul's ideas, but don't think he would make a good president. If that makes me a troll according to the prevailing groupthink, so be it.

From an outsider's perspective, the newsletter scandal is very harmful. A politician's name is his brand, and these articles were written in the first person with Ron Paul's name right at the top. I don't think he wrote them, but it's very difficult to believe that he had no knowledge of the content or the writer's viewpoints. The fact that he refuses to out the author will mean, to a lot of people, that he is protecting someone to whom he still has close ties. If you want to combat this scandal, saying that the articles were "not so inflammatory" is the worst thing you could do.

Funny, I have asked about a dozen times for someone, anyone to please post the specific "inflammatory" quotes so we could discuss them and see if they were in context or false and do you know what? No one has done it, not once. It's a fait accompli.

Isn't that odd?

Read the articles yourself. If you're not offended by what you see there, I have nothing to say to you. Ignoring this won't make it go away.

You can't really be responding to this, because you just wrote "ignoring this won't make it go away" in response to my offer to discuss it further on a thread that's already 16 pages long. I mean if you meant to be ironic, then it's kind of funny, but if you were trying to be serious, that's awfully sad.

I have read it. I found a lot of things that were 100% verifiable facts, undeniable empirical realities backed up by concrete data and yet they were included in the whole of the article- I think that's telling in itself, so that if you were to try and throw out the whole thing- like you're doing- you throw out some extremely important pieces of information. I could point them out for you, but I was trying to give you or any other nancy pants who's whining like a two year old at the grocery store to come up with the best of the best so we could examine what exactly has you so emotional and broken.

Let me know when you've calmed down and want to come back to the big table.

You answered my question. You knew what you were signing up for.
I wanted to stop the war, and restore our constitution.
I made a terrible mistake.
I need to take a shower and put an apology letter in my business window to
any and all who read my signs.

Wow, just wow.

We don't need summer soldiers or sunshine patriots like yourself.

It's only safe to assume a lot of people here don't read everything, and only wanted a reason to vote for someone other than paul.

I'm having a hard time to keep a straight face at all the people who can't navigate the ron paul home page and read his explanation.

If you people can't take a smear that has been debunked more times than the 9/11 conspiracy, then you have failed us as group supporter, a friend for the revolution, and above all, you have failed yourself.

I seriously thought critical thinking skills were something Ron Paul users had an abundance of.

I was wrong.

A bunch of 'fair weather' supporters. When the going gets tough, they jump ship. Go away, we don't want you or need you.

You are looking for perfection and in the process have become the perfect victim. The media loves you. You'll fall for anything.

FOOLS!!

The rest of you should be doing everything in your power to defend our man! Every blog, forum, radio and tv show should be called and emailed. There is plenty to defend here:

"Paul denied the allegations quite believably, since the style diverges widely from his own."

Do you not get that?!

His only sin was not micromanaging the ghost writers but instead, trusting them to represent him appropriately. SO SUE HIM!!!!

Good God, I've never seen more ass-wipes lately as I have on this board!!

Nice job, alienate current supporters who are merely questioning a poor response from the campaign. You're now pushing away people and reducing numbers, WE NEED AS MANY PEOPLE AS WE CAN GET. How the hell do you want the man to win when you say people that are not blindly faithful to Paul should F OFF?

A poor response? What do you want from the man? For him to grovel at your feet? He's handling it well now, he will certainly have to handle it well tonight and going forward. Acting like an unreasonable child and race-baiting isn't helping the campaign. Period.

Here's what I think about the whole issue:

youtube.......or it didn't happen

Because unless you've actually SEEN Ron Paul say these sort of things (youtube please?), then it simply doesn't fit his character. ANYONE could have written those things. How is it provable, one way or the other? All you can do is look at his character. But of course, if that just isn't suffice enough then I suppose there are those other bozo candidates to choose from.......with their pristine pasts and all.......

If Ron Paul has publicly made racist comments, introduced racist legislation in the House, or voted for any racist bills then I wouldn't be voting for him. However, he has done none of this. He denied writing the racist stuff in the newsletter, denounced it as small minded bigotry, and has taken moral responsibility for the fact that it was published under his name.

His public service record is one of the best I've ever seen. Can you say that about ANY other candidate?

17 pages of posts on this crap!

I did it! I wrote the horrible newsletter. It's all my fault, and I'm very sorry. Can we all now please get back to working on getting Ron Paul elected? Thanks!
