I think Donald Trump is buying off the pollsters

He has money to buy everything else off. Why else would his numbers not drop?

Occam's Razor. There is a simpler explanation. Many GOP voters are very very stupid. The Washington Post released a poll saying that 30% of republicans support bombing the fictional country of Agraba. (The home of Disney's Aladdin). That's right about the level of Trump's consistent support. I'm not saying Trump gets all of the "bomb Agraba" voters but I bet he gets the lion's share. Trump does best among voters who do not have a college degree.

Now you are being taken for a ride. The stupidity of the average voter definitely plays a role but only to the extent of how easy it is to shape the sentiment of the electorate. The decision of how to shape the electorate is still being made somewhere and this where Trump's influence comes in.
