I sure hope the NYT does a follow up on McCain

I am hoping The New York Times came out with this story to get Ol' Juan to deny the allegations so they can counter by bringing forth evidence that will sink his battleship faster than Rudy Julie Annie's.

I can't see them making a big deal out of this they way they are without having proof to back themselves up against McCain's denials. The next few days should be very interesting. It could put Ron Paul right back in it. :D

From what I have heard, this is just the begining. (not that I know anyone important or anything)

I would guess NY Times is holding back information. If you really want to sink someone, you put out allegations first, forcing them to deny it, then bring the proof calling them a liar on top of the original allegation.

Unfortunately for McCain, this is pretty much a no win political setup. You either have to deny it, giving them more ammo later, not respond giving them more ammo now, or claim it's true and take the fall.

Thank God the New Republic forced the Times to run it before McCain got the nomination sewed up. Not that everyone from liberal Slate to pretty boy Rick Perry of Texas aren't trying desperately to say otherwise.

"Come along folks, to late to stop this travesty, just vote for him and move along."

"If it's too late to stop this travesty, why do you still want us to vote for him?"

Seems stupid enough, but I bet as Ohioans, Texans and others are canvassing they find people who are mad as hell about having to vote for the guy because of this and sad nothing can be done...?!? How much you want to bet?

If it really were false info, McCain would sue for libel. No suit, McCain? Hmmmmm... I think there is more to come.

This could be just the hiccup Ron Paul needs to make a good showing in the Texas primary. If Ron could win Texas, that would be Hugh because it is a winner take all State.

I suggest that we grassroots supporters make an all out effort to promote Ron Paul NOW. That means donating every dollar we can to his campaign NOW before the March 04, primary. Also, we need to flood the state with Ron Paul supporters -- knocking on doors-- and get the Texans to support their favorite son. I maxed out (2300.00)several months ago but I am still donating to the Congressional race.

Ron needs a HUGE rally before the primary in Texas. What can you guys get together?

Wouldn't McCain fall under the Public Persons hole in libel though? Those are very hard cases to prove, from my understanding.

Because if someone is seen as a "public person", that person not only has to prove the falseness of the allegation, but prove "actual malice" on top of it. Definition I found of this is "In translation, that means that the person making the statement knew the statement to be false, or issued the statement with reckless disregard as to its truth."

Not to stand up for McCain, but the libel suit might not be in his best interest at this point, it's a pretty tough case to win against the press.

As a general rule, public persons deny if possible, and if not they counter-attack (i.e., they question their accuser's motives in bringing it up). So far, the accusations have passed this "smell test".

Knocking on doors is very effective. You can't possibly talk to too many people about Ron Paul. And it's cheap if you are maxed out or can't afford it - just your gas and your time.

i find it funny all of the news media are trashing the ny times for running the story cause the timing is bad apareltny. Well it would have really been bad in dec.

Plus how the hell can they ignore completely that he was with a lobbyists 24/7 and call that ethical. wtf is wrong with this people.

Oh, but on msnbc earlier, they made sure that everyone understands that all politicians hang out with lobbyists, and it's just a normal part of how Washington works. ::gag::
