I just thought of a perfect debate answer!!

When they ask Paul about all the negative ads and how nasty he's being, (because you know they'll ask and you know they'll characterize it as being unsavory) this should be his answer:

"If you think it's rough when I expose their records, just wait until you see when I expose Obama's!"

Bam. Turns any negative into a positive. Makes people want to see the negative ads against Obama. The only way they get to see those ads is to elect Ron Paul.

I thought you were going to rattle off some long script that Ron Paul should quote verbatim if he wants to win, but you actually made a pretty good point there. Kudos.

There other problems with this response besides being generic. First of all it's a non-response, which is contrary to Ron's style. Also, instead of saying that his ads are true, and they help people to understand the positions of his opponents, and it is his responsibility as a candidate to do that, your suggested response implies that he's doing this just for the pleasure of attacking. He's kind of macho guy that will overmacho Obama "himself." Forget issues. Forget record. Forget truth. My delivery will be the toughest. I will kill him with roughness. This is not Ron.
RP should get at least 30 secs to respond, and saying,

If you think it's rough when I expose their records, just wait until you see when I expose Obama's!

plus the associated laughter should give him at least 20 secs to say something else and actually answer the question.

I think they may ask him about the chickenhawk characterization of Gingrich.

I think his response should be:

"Listen, I want what's best for this country. I think the American people deserve to know the truth before they choose a candidate for President. I wouldn't want the people to have buyers remorse if none of this came out until after the primaries, because if it's not brought up now, you can bet that the Democrats are going to bring this stuff up during the campaign for the general election. Let's just get all the facts on the table and let the American people decide who best serves their interests. I trust the American people with the Truth."

I agree
