Since you actually took my post seriously, your claim is debatable at best. Germany lost the second they attacked the Soviets. Germany screwed up in the Battle of Britain and there would have been no "loss" on that front. Just a neutral ceasefire.

Yes the invasion of the Sovie Union proved a disaster, but the Russians would have attacked Germany sooner or later. I think one of the big mistakes Germany made was in having Italy and Japan as allies. Italy got them bogged down in Africa where they lost over a million men, either as casualties or POW's. Not to mention needing to bail out Italy in Yugoslavia, Albania and Greece due to their incompetence. Japan really screwed the Germans over by not attacking the Soviets from the east, this keeping the "Great Patriotic War" a one front war. Also, attacking Pearl Harbor brought the US into things.

Germany's big mistake with regards to the UK was they changed their tactic from destroying the RAF (which was weeks away from collapsing) and instead bombing non-strategic targets in cities.

I'm pretty sure that Germany could have defeate the UK had the US not gotten involved and had Germany not followed the Italians into Africa. Whether or not they would have been able to defeat the USSR is debatable, it sure as hell would have been nice though (and then Germany getting defeated by the US and both nazism and communism abolished)

In Europe only UK,France,Turkey and Greece have an army that have been trained for warfare.Everyone else keeps army more or less for parades and national pride.

No, that's not the only thing they keep armies for.

And anyway, tanks are completely obsolete in modern warfare.

It depends on who you're fighting.
I had a conversation about this with my carpool buddy from Peru. Apparently a while ago the Peruvian armed forces were asking for tanks. They were pushing - tanks, tanks, tanks. We need tanks to be a real army.
The prevailing attitude at the time was "What the hell do you need tanks for? This whole country is either mountains or jungles."
Then I pointed out to him that there is a part of Peru that's nice and flat - the cities.
That's the military use of tanks - subjugating a civilian population.
I submit that this is also the military use of tanks - and all those parade armies - in Europe as well.


I think if there's one thing that we should all re-learn from the last 10 years of American involvement in the world, particularly Afghanistan, it's this:
The only purpose of a military is subjugation. They are incompatible with defense.
If defense is your goal, adopt a militia system.

Japan has a gaping wound on it's side bleeding into the ocean that may not heal for a hundred generations, a litany of societal problems, and an emerging economic megalith to it's side that has an ethnic distaste for it's people. Add several aircraft carriers in development -- with a military modernization and imperial expansion funded by trillions of dollars in labor owed to it by Japan's largest trading partner.
