I can't believe none of our people are running for Senate in Iowa

Well then we'll need to convince Ivers by March 14, 2014, the filing deadline in Iowa. Is there one candidate who is better than the rest? Maybe a DeMint or even a Johnson?

Iowa is a blue enough state that I'd rather be focusing on the likes of states like North Carolina. It's my opinion that there's too many great candidates to support for other offices that there seems to be no strategic explanation for supporting a DeMint type that's going to probably end up losing. If you want a DeMint type that will win, Osborn in Nebraska looks like a pretty good bet.

I look at states like Iowa and New Hampshire a little differently. They are not a lost cause, they just need a little bit different kind of candidate. A more Jim Demint or Rand Paul would be good for a state like North Carolina. I think a candidate that is more socially libertarian like Gary Johnson would play very well in a state like Iowa, New Hampshire, or even states like Colorado and Virginia. The fact that we supposedly have a strong liberty movement in NH and Iowa but can't produce viable candidates is another story..........

Iowa doesn't seem very socially liberal at all. Democrats seem to have the edge there because the state has populist leanings on fiscal issues.

Steve King is the only social conservative to represent Iowa in one of four districts. The candidate for statewide office probably should be more centrist socially. New Mexico is like Iowa on the fiscal side if not more so, and Johnson won there twice.

The closest to a liberty candidate right now is Matt Whitaker. He talks a good game, and even mentions how the Fed's QE is harming economic growth. I've been saying for weeks if none of "our" guys get in, this is the one to support.

Hopefully our folks in Iowa can find a legit candidate, even if the person is not a pure liberty candidate. That is pretty much what the state and local party leadership is supposed to do.

Steve King and Grassley are conservative on most things except ethanol and farm subsidies.

Iowa is weird though. I think a libertarian republican could win the general election, but to get past the primary you have to be a Bible thumping evangelical that trumpets farm subsidies and devotion to Israel.

Whitaker is considered to be a Tea Party candidate and often invokes Cruz and Lee. Don't know about the others.

You're right. Matt Whitaker is a fantastic candidate.

“I would be like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz and hold the bureaucracy that is the federal government accountable to the people,” - Matt Whitaker said Monday. http://abetteriowa.desmoinesregiste...p-identity-crisis-tangles-whitakers-campaign/

This guy is a 4 or 5 star candidate. I don't know how I've missed him.
