How to win: small states + delegates

I think it's clear that we're not going to take over 50% in the primaries. I think we'll do all right, but we won't walk away with it. But most likely, nobody else will either, so it'll be up to the delegates at the national convention.

However, to be eligible at the convention, Paul needs to take at least five states (according to http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=47114)

This suggests that we should focus a big chunk of our efforts on a few small states, to make darn sure we get the five we need.

The other campaigns will be fighting it out in the big states. Let 'em. We need to get our 5. Our war chest against their dregs should easily get them for us. Good options probably include Alaska, Montana, Idaho, North and South Dakota, as suggested here:
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=82639&page=2).

We need to write letters to those states, buy ads there, everything.

Then, it will be critically important that we really do get those delegates. But this is critical anyway, if we don't get that 50% of states. Everybody you know who's a solid supporter, even if they haven't been volunteering, make sure you get them to the precinct meetings. If you're not familiar with the rules in your state, get the way fast. Make sure your meetup knows all about it, and is organized and ready.

If we can win the straw polls, we can get our people elected as delegates. If we do that, and we have our five states, we can win this election.

If we also take some big states, all the better, but we must have five states and the delegates.

Excellent strategy for the grassroots, imo.

Let the campaign work on getting ALL states, but let's get the grassroots focused on FIVE.

This my plan:

I've joined the local GOP, shudder, and as a Ron Paul Precinct Captain. I plan on doing all that I can to get out the vote and plan on being in my precinct all day when we vote. I also plan on being in SC on the 19th to help out however I can. I don't know how we can keep the vote honest, I really don't have a clue. Remember the old saying?? Vote early and often??? Don't need to do that anymore, just change the numbers.

By being in the GOP, I can be a delegate to the county, then the district (where the delegates are selected for the National conference....) and then to the State conference. At the State level, it is possible to change the platform of the GOP if you have enough support for it. If we can't win from the top down, let's win from the bottom up. It will take longer, but it needs to be done somehow, someway.

The deal is, at the national convention, if no candidate has enough delegates at the first vote (in which you are bound by your state's laws to vote for "so and so") the next vote you get to vote for whomever you want..i.e. Ron Paul. If RP continues to get votes and stays strong, we may win after all, IF no one else can get a majority.

and I posted this elsewhere today

I have said this before, and I will say it again.

I am done with voting for worse or worser.
I am no longer voting for someone because I dislike the other candidate more.
I will vote my conscience from this election on.
I will be informed of all of the issues - both foreign and domestic, economic and political.
I will be aware of all of the candidates - their positions, honesty, credentials, and their history.
I will make a choice honestly - will this person make our country stronger or weaker?
I will fight voter fraud wherever I see it.

I am voting for Ron Paul if I have to Write His Vote IN.

If this were a petition, I'd sign it and post it to the world - I am fed up with uninformed voters that vote with just their feelings about a candidate. "I AM MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY LONGER"

Yes, all strategy needs to shift from winning states and go towards winning DELAGATES! This WILL be a brokered convention most likely, which means Ron Paul would have a very good chance to get the nomination!

I'm glad people are reading my posts on how we can actually win this nomination--despite the official campaign's best efforts.

For these purposes, DC and the territories count as "states."

I suggest that the five early states adopt the territories after they vote:

Iowans contact Puerto Ricans.
Wyoming takes North Mariana Islands.
New Hampshire gets American Samoa.

You get the idea. Obviously, if we have supporters there (people please check the Meetup groups (including individuals expressing interest in a Meetup group) and FEC reports for donors from the territories. Also, everyone that knows anyone in any of the territories needs to contact them about Dr. Paul.

Check this forum's caucus and primary state info, DC and the territories are at the end.
