How to quickly flip republicans onto our side of the PATRIOT ACT

Just wanted to write about something Ive noticed in talking to republicans recently.

We all know the majority LOVE the patriot act.. They dont see a problem with giving up freedom to keep us safe.. and the Patriot Act recently passed..

However just the other day it was announced that the automobile industry will be mandated to install "black boxes" on all new cars starting THIS MONTH.. The articles about these black boxes firmly state its all about raising revenue for various governmental programs

Here is a snippet

The installation and use of these black boxes can have infinite possibilities for local, state, and federal governments to monitor and record data for a number of other revenue programs that are currently under consideration

Now these same republicans are up in arms about their privacy being invade and they being forced into something like this..

So I have replied to them this:

With the recent passage of the Patriot Act we have given government the green light to be involved in all our personal affairs. They have all but eviscerated our 4th amendment protections... so expect to have cops even look up your data even if you're not driving... Pay your registration a week late even if you're away on vacation and not driving? Expect a ticket in the mail..

This is why you cant give up freedom and be safe. All you do is exchange one threat (terrorists) for another (government)

The govt doesn't care about keeping you safe..Its all about taking your property.

And it seemed to get through to everybody instantly.

Just food for thought if anybody needs any extra ammo

You know the sad irony? If Bush was still president many of these republicans who are against these black boxes would have embraced them. That's the real benefit of Obama being elected. It helps the republican grassroots see the police state for what it is. Of course now the democrat grassroots have gone to sleep. :(

And when they say things like "The Patriot Act doesn't matter if you have nothing to hide" reply with "Can I go through your mail every day? There shouldn't be a problem if you have nothing to hide"

In the first thread that was created about this, I pointed out that this article is wrong. If you click through their link to their source article, it clearly states that those boxes are already on cars, and have been since the 90's. The new regulation will expand the number of agencies that can access the data.

It's a fine example of incrementalism.

Do you know the make and models these are on and where they are located so I can rip mine the fuck out if I have one?

even better excuse to buy the '72 Chevelle SS I ride by every day on the way to work.

Food for thought...why are Republicans, who mostly support the 2nd Amendment and get all hyped up over American badassness, so in favor of the Patriot Act? What the hell do they think the 2nd Amendment was written for? Could there possibly be any more of a tail between our legs, pansy way to combat terrorism than to shutter in fear and beg our government to rock us back to sleep? The proper response from a "conservative" Republican President should have been a nationally televised speech in which the President recommended every law abiding citizen to purchase, learn to use, and carry firearms...in the event of a terrorist attack, 30 people shoot them from all angles=no boom.

The simplest way I've found to convey the absurdity of the Patriot Act to Republicans is to hit them where it hurts their ego and exceptionalism mentality the most, call them a pansy, that will get the testosterone rushing.
