How to keep snakes away?

Because the benefits far outweigh the risks.

I have several black racers and a corn snake at the moment :) They manage the mice coming in from the nature trails and from under the neighbor's deck.

There is carrying capacity to any environment. Besides keeping up on mice, presence of "good snakes" also limits the presence of venomous snakes.

Cats AND guinea birds.. we have one cat that's an excellent snaker and the guinea birds take care of what he misses - yes.. they do make noise.. females have a two syllable call - just as loud and obnoxious as the males. I haven't seen a snake in years here in the middle of nowhere.

get some stray or animal shelter cats.. in my experience, having about 6 cats on a property can give you a decent no-snake zone..

they have to be outdoor cats though obviously that like to hunt.. That is what we have always done. but I live on a ranch with a lot of room for cats to roam free..

One of the cats here got a snake just today. The kittens are just starting to learn to hunt.

I would get a couple pigs too , just in case , LOL

Yeah I think that's the best idea. My mom lives on half acre.

I hate snakes with a passion. scare the livin' daylights out of me! I can never understand when someone says "keep it around because it's not poisonous." Keep all of 'em off my lawn!

Irrational fear. Have you spoken with anyone about this? Not good - it's like being in a prison of your own making.

Just a thought.

This is the attitude my 64 year old mother takes :p

Sorry man... I'm not a religious man but the persecution of snakes goes back to when Christ walked the earth... and probably way before that...

There's something about them that's wrong... humanity hasn't liked them for thousands of years.

I think they are pure evil. I'm not sure how anyone can look at a snake and not be either terrified or full of rage or both. I think there should be a day every year we go out and club as many as we can like the Simpsons.

I'd love for every snake to be wiped from the planet and if they weren't so essential to the food chain i'd advocate a human led extinction of them.

They have no legs, no arms, they slither, hiss, have evil looking eyes and tongues, some have horns, rattles, venom, giant heads, some are 30feet long, others are so small you'd never see them before they went all coral snake on your ass and you died.

They are fucking evil, and yes it's an irrational fear I have, they're probably my greatest fear to be honest (and I hate admitting that with the NSA reading) but there is something about snakes that is just wholly evil. Burn them! Burn them all!

My advice, living in Florida, would be to get your mom a gun and have her start blowing the mother fuckers away.

there are tricks to keeping snakes out of your campsite, but beyond that- i can't help you.

A 4ft. Black was "sweeping" the ceiling the other day ( In the attic). I welcome my reptilian overlords.

Problem solved.

Kill venomous snakes. Kill snakes that get INSIDE your house *shudder* but I agree with the previous comments about keeping the others around for rodent control. They're no threat to you. And no, they're not *eeevil* Stop it.
