How Rand Paul learned to talk to black people

This is a legitimate concern, IMO.

What if the President had said that? "I'm glad my train didn't stopped as we went through Baltimore"

Rand is trying to be President. You don't get to dodge uncomfortable issues or situations.

Call this a learning experience and move on.

A president has better things to do than get himself injured or killed. You don't put a chief executive in the middle of a riot zone, and I doubt that Rand Paul had a sufficient armed detail to insure his security had the train actually stopped.

This may cost him a few black votes in the general election, but given how few black people are in the GOP, I don't see this hurting him much in the primary, which is where he is now.

For the primary the aim is not to get black people to vote for him (because there aren't enough of them in the GOP to make a difference in the primary), the aim is to get the votes of everyone in the party who thinks that the GOP needs to do a better job on this front.

This x 1000. Hope more Rand supporters become aware of this fact as it will enable him to push even further on these issues and messaging. That's always been one of Obama's biggest strengths as a candidate... his core supporters always gave him plenty of slack/space to "conservative-ize" his outreach (because they believed they understood the politics behind it).
