I think your point is valid to an extent. but preparedness is not only about political/economic meltdown. We all face our own local variety of natural disasters, choose your local favorite from a long list, Hurricanes, Blizzards, Earthquakes etc. It is just irresponsible not to prepare to be able to sustain yourself for a reasonable amount of time, in the event of their occurrence.
As for shooting anyone who I perceive a threat to the safety of me or my family during a time of great crisis: I'll just say I'm retired military, hesitation has never been an option. I won't speak for anyone else. There is a reason why Constitution supporting veterans are viewed as a threat to authority by authority.
Your analogy of unplugging the fan before the shit hits is invalid unplugged or not if you don't stop up the source you still got a mess to clean up it is just more localized.
Just tell the Fed to STUFF IT! and Secede.
Changing the political landscape is why we are here and not on one of the Kool Aid Kommunities.
Food Ammo Bug Out bags, all useless if your brain ain't engaged in advance. Preparedness is all about thinking.
I don't think I will ever be as prepared as I want to be but I may be obsessive.
