How Mitt Romney Lost My Vote

I do know the Kochs and Cato and Reason establishments...

...are very controlled opposition, set up from the first for the purpose of maintaining the status quo, and giving libertarianism a bad name by calling something else 'libertarianism'.

We all should know that by now.

The whole Barr/Root episode was bizarre, and unlike what the LP has done in the past. I figure the core of the party was distracted by the Ron Paul run, leaving the LP wide open to a controlled opposition invasion. Or, at least, leaving it in the charge and at the mercy of an odd wing of the party.

I voted for George W. Bush while I was IN IRAQ.

I didn't vote in '08 because when McCain was nominated all the talking heads who had been bashing him as a RINO started telling me he was the conservative savior.

In the immortal words of Patrick Henry "I smelled a rat."

Bought The Revolution: A Manifesto two weeks after the 2008 election.

OK now I feel kind of out of place...been voting the Constitution since 2000. In the y2k GOP primary that was actually Alan Keyes. It wasn't until 2006 that Keyes kind of lost his mind (when his daughter came out of the closet). He appears to be starting to recover now. Just starting.

ETA - would have been voting the Constitution earlier, but I didn't bother with voting when I was in the Marines....
2000 was my first year I said "to hell with both of them" as well and started voting for the Constitution.

I voted for Pat Buchanan in 1992. I liked paul in 1988 but didn't vote for him
I voted for Bush junior (Ugh) as he said he was not going to Nation build. Then after that Ron all the way

This thread is an encouraging reminder of our constant growth and a sign of the massive expansion we are bound to see after next week's election. When you came to liberty is of little importance. Just be glad that you found liberty.

It really is. There are so many people here who voted for McCain or Obama enthusiastically just 4 years ago. Neocons and socialists CAN see the light. However it usually takes longer the older they are I have found. I have had most success turning young neocons our way than anything else. growing up with Bush and the current state of the GOP makes them ripe for converting. To them just being a R gives you credibility which is why Ron is such a perfect messenger.

Indeed. I enjoyed reading the posts of newer join date members in this thread. Keep spreading the message guys! It's WORKING!

I have to admit that i've had a short temper with drone voters this year, and you'd think i'd be turning people away with the passion in which i engage them on this subject, but in the end- they end up coming back and asking more questions and eventually coming over to liberty. I am adamant and passionate. But it is the shock to the system i give these people that cracks their hive shell.
only 3 out of 15 people in my office are still voting for drone (mitt), the rest are going johnson. and the ones who are still voting mitt are voting LP down ballot.
this has been a two year process... so don't try this at home.

again, if you are in a state that does not count (NY, CA, TX) vote for GJ or write in Ron. the GJ vote might help the Libertarian party get more matching funds in 2016

but if you are Ohio remember Obamacare, remember Demonoid and vote for Romney

And someone tell me if it's just me, but it seems like they have always done a shit job at explaining their positions....

I get the impression that the LP has never been a home for Ron's brand of libertarianism, and has little interest in being its home even now... and I can't fathom why.

Harry Browne did a pretty good job explaining libertarian philosophy. I miss him. :(

I wish I had known about Browne ealier, it took Badnarik's Constitution classes and presidential campaign for me to realize I was a libertarian.

Found this earlier today:

122 votes already wasted!

I happily "wasted" my vote in 08 by writing in Dr. Paul and again will happily "waste" my vote this go around too. The last time I didn't "waste" my vote (according to them) was in 04 when I was blindly voting for Bush cause that there Kerry lied about his Purple Hearts and the evil terrorist were going to get me with their weapons of mass destruction if I didn't vote for Bush.

Man, since I woke up in 07, I feel so much better. Even with the country going down the tubes, I sleep well.

Didn't vote in the primaries in '04, but I voted for Nader in the general. (It was the first election I was old enough to vote in. I was young and inexperienced, and the only thing I knew for sure was that the two major parties were full of shit. Give me a break :D)

...Came to my senses in '06 and started to dig deeper...

Voted for Ron Paul in the primaries in '08, and again in '12.

In the general this year, I'll probably vote for Gary Johnson (because I do like him, and that is the pragmatic route), but my heart really wants to write in Ron Paul.

What to do...What to do...

I'm glad I couldn't vote in '08 otherwise I would of voted for McCain. It was literally like a month after the election though that I read the Revolution: A Manifesto, and here I am now an AnCap.

Mitt Romney never had my vote ever. Like I didn't even know who Mitt Romney was.

sorry to give you the bad news, but Romney doesn't need your vote, he caused Hurricane Sandy so that blue states can't go out and vote Obama like they usually do.

Is that all bases covered?

Steal the GOP nomination from Ron Paul
Have his sons buy up swing state voting machines
Now destroy blue states on the east coast.

I stupidly voted straight Republican until 2008. When McCain and Obama voted for bailouts, I new they had no clue. I noticed how Ron was treated, and thought: He must not be one of the good old boys. So I began looking at voting records, and liked what he said. I voted for him in the primaries. I have continued researching, and like him even better than in 2008.

I could have written that article myself, aside from the fact that I didn't pay attention enough in 2008 to even know who Romney was, or Ron Paul for that matter. I pulled the lever for McCain (since I was a good little Neocon), and could see through Obama's "Hope and Change". However, it felt wrong, and I began questioning my political belief system. I got tired of all the hate spewed by Limbaugh and Hannity, and started slowly turning them off. Then I took a few classes on American history and Political Science and realized that the system we have today was a travesty compared to what the founders intended. Once I saw the lineup for the 2012 primaries I started looking into all of the candidates, which included Ron. My eyes were fully opened and the rest is history!

I'm sorry, there is no way I could vote for Romney and sleep at night. I have gotten a lot of slack for that from some family and friends, but he stands for everything I don't like about Obama, only to a worse degree because he would mean eight years of the same policies compared to four. Romney wants to repeal Obamacare (that's good), but then replace it (with what??). He supports the NDAA, TSA, Patriot Act, etc. His hawkish ways scare me more than Obama's. I could go on, but I'm sure you know. It's just something I don't think I could even physically make myself do. To me, they are one in the same.
