I think he learned from his 88 run that his message gets across much more effective if he does not engage in screaming matches with idiots. Look at the Morton Downey Jr. Clip. The guy baited Ron and a bunch of complete morons ganged up on him and didn't let him speak, by trying to speak over them it made him look not very professional, and that type of attention doesn't get supporters or votes.
Ron Paul is from a different era, and he's one of the best of that era.
I grew up in the next neighborhood over from Ron Paul's family in Pittsburgh. I'm 18 years younger than Ron, so I was just being born when Ron was off to college. He delivered milk for his father's dairy (Greentree Dairy) to our house just before I was born, and his family continued to deliver our milk for the next 10 years.
My old man was a fanatic about "real" milk (whole milk and buttermilk) vs what he called "blue" milk (Homogenized, pasteurized, Vitamin D milk), so being able to get what he wanted was important to him.
I remember my dad talking about the family who owned Greentree Dairy when I was a young'n because he had personal dealings with them, as they were relatively close to where we lived.
My dad spoke very highly of the Pauls and their sons many times, and my dad was a for real, principles-first-no-matter-what guy 'til the day he died. I remember it well, 'cause dad didn't lavish that sort of praise on many people.
Besides the fact that praise from my father meant the recipient of that praise had integrity, it went without saying that it also meant they were very hard working and honest.
When Ron said, in the townhall meeting last night, that he believes you derive strength from confidence, not by a show of force or bullying, you have the answer to your question. Ron has lived a lifetime of proving himself right in that you are stronger than the opponent by your confidence. It eliminates the necessity to hide your lack of self confidence by bullying.
When I first met Ron, we reminisced about the old neighborhoods and those old work ethic ideals. I was floored to find, after all these years, that we grew up so close to each other and, even though he's closer to my father in age, we both worked in our respective family owned businesses under the old school of men who made it through the Great Depression (no doubt why we share a dislike for the Fed).
I'm just sayin...
Bosso
That's not true. Well, hear me out. He has broad support, agewise. The media keeps telling people his support is from young people, as a very subtle way to marginalize him. That subtle smear says a few things...
1.) The supporters are young, and thus don't have the experience or knowedge to pick a good president.
2.) The supporters are young and we know young people don't vote, so he doesn't have any "real" support.
According to a CNN poll, in Iowa, republican voters aged 17-29... 40 percent caucused for Gov. Mike Huckabee, 22 percent for Mitt Romney, and 21 percent for Ron Paul.
So, why do people believe that Paul's support is from young people? His supporters may be a little biased toward youth, but I only believe that's so because the youth have had less time to get disgusted with politics and drop out.
Anyway, his support coming from young people is repeatedly mentioned in the media because they see it as a negative, not because it's really noteworthy.
Seriously, it seems every time he speaks they all laugh at him. Every time he asks them a question they simply ignore it. The MSM ignores him. How has this man not exploded yet lol.
His wife Carol was asked that in an interview. She said that Paul brushes it off saying, " It's a part of their disease."
Hahahahaha! That's how he stays calm and patient. He sees them as being mentally diseased. Just like the good Doctor he is. She also said he is a very forgiving person. Just like the good man he is.
She said that hse gets really upset by all of the shananigans.
I agree. Ron Paul has more than his fair share of immature supporters who can be a big liability.
I came across an economic blog posting where the writer questioned Ron's beliefs in a gold standard and where she poked some light fun at it, suddenly you see a commenter (who called himself a Ron Paul supporter) call the blogwriter a "cunt" along with many other vile comments.
It is sad that such ugly behavior from a supporter will reflect on Paul. The paradox of Paul's candidacy: The most intellectually and emotionally mature candidate around has by far the most immature and worst behaved supporters.![]()
I have wondered this myself....it only adds to my respect for this man and the extent of his knowledge...it reminds me of a very good german saying: "klug zur reden ist oft schwer - klug zur schweigen noch viel mehr" which is hard to translate correctly, but basically it would be "it is often difficult to talk intelligently...but even harder to remain silent intelligently" this actually is very inspiring....if you look at that faux forum without Ron Paul - then see a debate with Ron Paul, it is immediatly apparent who knows what he is talking about and who talks "politics"....we just must remember that many americans just simply cant be bothered with the truth....we base our opinions on "what everyone else is doing" and have no time to research issues and find solutions or grasp understanding in out own minds (this being a normal typical american) and that is a huge part of the problem - Dr. Paul sounds to some like he is speaking in greek...they simply do not understand...that is the tragedy...as this is seriously the last chance for us.
><
I have always wondered that myself. Some great responses in this thread, most of which are probably the truth. I have become outrageously frustrated and have had a hard time turning the anger into productive acts. I get so aggravated that it is difficult to focus on the right things. I should find some outlet for that, but nevermind that for now. lol
I still think Paul should get a bit more angry at these guys and really try to push them off his case. Nothing over the line...nothing personal and no jokes, but something to shove their unintelligent policies back in their faces with some force. It would get the hard-nosed Republicans sitting at home, seeing Paul as a wasteful lack of leadership.
I agree completely. Many of the things he says are abstract concepts. Things like "Liberty", "the Constitution", "sound money", "FED prints money out of thin air" or when he talks about "habeas corpus".
Most people say.... huh?
It doesn't tell someone how it specifically effects their life TODAY. How does it pay the bills and keep food on the table. This is one of the largest challenges with the whole message. Even more than the Main Stream Media, because even if they did cover him, many people still wouldn't "GET IT".
