Ron Paul is a fighter has been battling the Orcs for decades.

The man's secret? Twofold, in my opinion.
First, he's older, and wiser. A lot of his supporters seem to be teenagers and young adults, who have not yet realized that punching someone in the face is not going to do anything to forwards your career. Ron is a career politician, having been in politics for over 30 years. He knows how to play the game as well as anyone.
Second, I think he already knows he's not going to win this, and is playing this game on a long form. It's why he can't tell you how much revenue comes in via taxes, or how he's going to remove the IRS without having a funding option in play, or how he's going to get everyone else in congress to follow his plans. The answer is, he doesn't know. His intention wasn't to win the election this time around, it's just to start opening people up to the ideas he has. The fact that he's done this well must concern him, because if he does get in , I don't see how he can pull off the plan. So, that's reason number two.. he's calm because he doesn't want to win this right now. He's wanting to get people aclimitized to his message.

Ron Paul is from a different era, and he's one of the best of that era.
I grew up in the next neighborhood over from Ron Paul's family in Pittsburgh. I'm 18 years younger than Ron, so I was just being born when Ron was off to college. He delivered milk for his father's dairy (Greentree Dairy) to our house just before I was born, and his family continued to deliver our milk for the next 10 years.
My old man was a fanatic about "real" milk (whole milk and buttermilk) vs what he called "blue" milk (Homogenized, pasteurized, Vitamin D milk), so being able to get what he wanted was important to him.
I remember my dad talking about the family who owned Greentree Dairy when I was a young'n because he had personal dealings with them, as they were relatively close to where we lived.
My dad spoke very highly of the Pauls and their sons many times, and my dad was a for real, principles-first-no-matter-what guy 'til the day he died. I remember it well, 'cause dad didn't lavish that sort of praise on many people.
Besides the fact that praise from my father meant the recipient of that praise had integrity, it went without saying that it also meant they were very hard working and honest.
When Ron said, in the townhall meeting last night, that he believes you derive strength from confidence, not by a show of force or bullying, you have the answer to your question. Ron has lived a lifetime of proving himself right in that you are stronger than the opponent by your confidence. It eliminates the necessity to hide your lack of self confidence by bullying.
When I first met Ron, we reminisced about the old neighborhoods and those old work ethic ideals. I was floored to find, after all these years, that we grew up so close to each other and, even though he's closer to my father in age, we both worked in our respective family owned businesses under the old school of men who made it through the Great Depression (no doubt why we share a dislike for the Fed).

Hell if I know, but let me tell you something...
I almost cried while reading A Foreign Policy of Freedom. Discovering how he's been putting up with this crap for decades.. God, it burned me up at first, but then I was on the verge of tears. Both tears of joy, and tears of sadness.
Sad because it's hard for me to even begin empathizing. Can you imagine pouring your heart and soul in desperation to deaf ears? And not only does nobody listen, no...ignoring him isn't enough, they ridicule him. Can you imagine knowing damn well that you're right, but continually being shot down for it? How many times can you be told to give up before you actually do? Does being the last sane man on earth make you crazy? A lesser man would've crumbled years and years ago.
Joyous because it's nothing short of remarkable that there's a guy willing to go against the grain and wage a one man war against corruption, pure evil, and the enemies of liberty. Joyous because one man can rally so many people together and create a new-found hopefulness. Ron Paul is a true hero. Ron Paul makes me appreciate our country. He literally makes me want to be a better person. Ron Paul is the only cure for apathy.
