I did not vote , did look at poll results , but , I can see why people would vote that . Food stamps are immoral because the money is stolen from others. I give to my local , privately funded , volunteer staffed food bank . I do not believe in govt involvment in that area.If I give the charity a dollar , the whole dollar goes out , if the govt steals a dollar from me to give to others , eighty cents of it goes to govt employee and building .

To be honest I am one of those votes. Thats my way of saying ME, ME, ME.

I dont try at all. Despite me selling myself hardcore. I have job interviews coming up andf I just turned down a job that was fulltime because I dont take commitments that I will turn down. Taking that job would have been wrong because they wanted someone to do maintenance long term and I have an internship this summer.

Oh, I thought that you were actually having some economic problems.

My advice is to just continue along with your education. Don't be afraid to take a minimum-wage part-time job while you're in school. As far as your "anything serious" goes, for a student, an Internship is about as serious as you can get.

also, if you need to collect food stamps to eat, then do so. If the government is willing to give you free money, then there's no shame in taking it. The food stamp program isn't going to be brought down by refusal to use it.

If you have an internship, than I'd say that you're doing pretty well career wise.

It was a serious question though. If someone is taking food stamps, why should they have the luxuries of internet, cable, phone, etc.

I read it somewhere years ago, but the average welfare recipient has 3 tv's, cable and a cell phone. We are 6 figure earners, and I just scaled back my cable package a bit because it was getting too expensive.

I am supporting myself. its not as easy as byou imply. I pay my own bills, I walk to school, I take the bus to work, I do community service, I help people. And I have not been with out a job in a long time. But I cant make enough money. I spend about 225 dollars on food. I help my sister out by buying her food. I see nothing wrong with that. I think you guys are being harsh. You guys live in a fantasy where you can just find work like that. I want big things so I am going to school and living in a rooming house. And I picking up a job in marketing. I came here asking a question and you judged me for the circumstance preceding my question and cncession.

In the situation you are in, every hour that you are not working you should be out looking for work. It's spring time, pick up a lawn mower at a yard sale and start cutting grass during the hours you are not working, going to school or sleeping.

I will pay them back. I go to community college. I receive 2500 in scholarships. And 4,000 in loans. I dont spend money like crazy either.

Honestly you shouldn't be spending money at all. If I was in your situation, I wouldn't buy a stick of gum --- there are no luxuries for those who cannot afford to pay for them on their own.

You benefit from subsidies and government programs too. Thats simply inevitable. You also do it with joy, where as I at least will admit Im a leech.

Really? What programs am I benefiting from? Bear in mine that I turned down a lifetime of disability checks because I thought it was morally wrong to take the money. So by all means, explain our moral equivocation. I can hardly wait.

I know of some, but I dont think they are pracitcal. I want to be just like you one day, and I will get there by taking risk and paying it forward.

No don't spend anything that it not absolutely required to sustain life. And like I said, work your ass off - there is no rest. I own two businesses, do you think I got to where I am at by taking naps and playing during the day? When I was just starting out, I worked at my business 10 hours per day, then had a part time job at night to help support it all.
