A conversation I had this weekend with an older woman (who was a stranger to me)

So being aware that there was no difference, only method of delivery, she still refused? Not sure you can get much shallower than that.

If everyone took Ron Paul's stance on earmarks, there would be no earmarks.

If everyone took Ron Paul's stance of stuffing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of earmarks into bills each congressional term, there would be no earmarks?

Yeah, Ron Paul has never voted for an earmark. Is the vote due to the earmarks, or it being an unbalanced budget? If a constitutional balanced budget came up for a vote, and it was brimming with earmarks, would Paul support or oppose it?

Frankly, I wish that Rand was better on the war issue and the drug issue. But I'm still happy to support any Rand Paul's and Mike Lee's that will beat some of these establishment Republicans.

He IS better - he's just playing the game and talking inside the overton window. Incrementalism is the name of the game in the Senate.

Ron Paul has stated that he supports earmarks morally, because he believes that Congress should be allocating the money, not the executive. So if he considered the bill a constitutional bill, he would vote for it even with earmarks.

A lot of people seem to be worried about Rand. I do not worry for a second about Rand. He is a smart politician, smarter than Ron on that front.

Rand will be able to accomplish things that Ron never could have. This is due to Ron's honesty and stubbornness in not tweaking details in his message (which, is not nec. a bad thing).

I was disappointed in Rand's vote on Iranian sanctions. But, we must realize that he has to play the game a little, something Ron was and still is unwilling to do.

I love Rand much more as a politician and Ron much more as an idea.

Either way, we have a bright future.

I see 2016 like this: Running for President - Rand Paul, Rubio, Ryan, Christie, Huntsman, Perry, John Thune, etc.

There will be a big split in 2016, between the true conservatives (paul) and the neocons (rubio, perry, thune, huntsman, christie)...it will be interesting to see where Paul Ryan fits in...

Ron looks short. Ofcourse I've never actually met him, just going off of comparisons such as the debate stage.

I don't know who wrote it, but Ron is NOT 6'0. I stood text to him, I am 6'0 and he was noticeably shorter. My guess would be 5'10

No, if everyone took Ron Paul's stance of opposing all pork-barrel spending in the first place and voting against it whenever it came up, there would be no earmarks. It is specifically because people don't take Ron Paul's stance on this issue that he winds up writing earmarks, which he still votes against. His position is completely rational and logically consistent; I can't believe how many times it has to be explained, even on the Ron Paul Forums, to Ron Paul supporters.

Well, he is 76 years old; supposedly, one loses a bit of height as bones begin shrink in old age, and Ron has developed a slight hunch in his shoulders and neck as well.

I view Rand as being more assertive, than his father. I think one of Ron's view weaknesses, is that he can be too nice or too passive. I believe Rand does not have this problem, especially judging after what happened with him and the TSA. I think that the establishment might not give Rand as much of a hard time as Ron. I believe they would view Rand as being corruptible, but once in office it would backfire on them.
