Global average temperature is also inversely related to the number of pirates, so I think it is safe to say that an increase in CO2 is good for everyone. Even the pirates, if they are lucky enough to witness the loss of competition.

Sorry about that. I thought it was kinda funny at the time when I posted it. Didn't mean for it to kill the thread. Glad AF revived it. I guess you could put just about anything on the x-axis. Is man causing CO2 levels to rise? Who knows for sure? Will figuring it out really change anything? If it is from burning fossil fuels, I'm pretty sure that we don't have much to worry about for the future. Getting that second half out of the ground will be much more difficult. What makes me want to scream is when people make an issue like this a political wedge to align people on either side of our two-party system. In fact, the whole two party system makes me want to scream.

We know for a fact that there are better sources of energy out there. We also know that fossil fuels are limited and they do pose much more immediate concerns for our health. Forgetting about global warming and evidence used on both sides, wouldn't the prior points be enough to make us want to develop (without gov intervention) better energy sources and change our own habits?

CO2 increases an average of 2 ppm (parts per million) a year. Human contribution to that is less than 4%, or less than 0.08 ppm. The United State's contribution to yearly CO2 increase is 20% of that 0.08, or 0.016. If the United States stopped all CO2 output, CO2 would go from increasing 2 ppm a year, to 1.984 ppm. If the world stopped all CO2 output, CO2 would go from increasing 2 ppm a year, to 1.92 ppm. Extrapolating that, in 100 years, CO2 in the atmosphere would be at 592 ppm, instead of 600 ppm.

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) says for every 100 ppm increase in CO2, temperatures respond by rising about 1.8° F. So in 100 years, we should expect temperatures to be 3.6° F warmer. By ending all CO2 output (and thereby sending us to the 1600's), we should then expect temperatures to be 3.456° F warmer, a difference of 0.144° F in 10 years. So the impact that humans have on the climate is very minimal.

But I do agree that a lot of green technologies aren't bad ideas. I have a solar powered fan that cools that attic (honestly don't know if it works, but it was a tax credit ), and some solar powered lights around the outside of the house. Have also considered buying some panels to power the A/C or hot water heater (which was apparently solar powered a decade ago), but too expensive at the moment.

No matter what your view, I find the whole global warming and cooling to be far less persuasive arguments for promoting green energy and conservation. There are much more compelling debates that show areas with higher Co2 pollution also have higher rates of CVD, asthma, birth defects, and cancer. We do need to do something about it.

1. The largest destroyer of the environment in the history of the world is government. Government consumes to no end for destructive purposes. If full private property Rights are enforced, the incentive is to preserve the natural integrity of your property and prevent others from polluting it. Whether it is your land, water, or air.

2. Mega-Corporations connected to the Federal Reserve System (Goldman Sachs, Monsanto, Blackwater, Exxon-Mobile, etc.) that dominate this country are currently in control of the central government. Their stranglehold on government has enabled them to rape the third-world where property is commonly owned with the full-backing of the US government to the horror of the local people, creating enemies along the way. With full private property rights (no property taxes, no regulation of property, no estate tax, etc.), the abolition of government-sponsored corporations (eliminating limited liability and other government-granted privileges), and complete currency freedom (no legal tender laws, no taxes on commodities, using contracts to set currency standards, etc.) the corporate stranglehold on the the population of the world and the raping of the planet would end tomorrow.

Yes, a lot of manipulation is going on. I think government is the cause of much of the pollution. I wonder how much pollution was caused by the Eisenhower Interstate System.
