The Houston Chronicle, in an attempt to turn people away from Dr. Paul's message, has written:

"But worse than just blowing millions on a campaign that's not really going anywhere, Paul is setting a troubling example for the hundreds of young supporters making their first foray into presidential politics with his campaign.

On Thursday, Paul was defending himself against the release of past newsletters published under his name in Texas, replete with racist, homophobic and paranoid language, which he has said were written without his approval.

The monthly newsletters date back to the late 1970s. They contain attacks on civil rights leaders, praise for white supremacist David Duke, and more. One 1992 issue noted after the Los Angeles riots of that year that, "order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks ... they were paid off and the violence subsided."

Asked on CNN to explain himself, Paul said he was too busy to pay attention to what was being published in the Ron Paul Political Report, The Ron Paul Survival Report and Ron Paul's Freedom Report. He said they don't reflect his views."

Read the whole article here: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/mason/5445666.html and leave a comment to explain why they are mistaken about Ron Paul's electability.

Over 10 years ago when these newsletters first surfaced, the Houston Chronicle accepted Ron Paul's explanation.

Maybe someone should send them a copy of their own paper from back then.

THe hypocrites.

The funny thing... is that so many of these young people will be wise beyond their years after seeing the way Paul has repeatedly been trashed in TV and print media.

An explanation that was markedly different from his campaign's current explanation.

Is that the best the MSM can do? LOL!

OK let's logically look at what is really being said here.

All one has to do is look at when the violence subsided and when the checks went out. If it turns out this statement is true, then how the heck is it racist? If it is true it is called a FACT folks, not racism!

Mark my words, this will backfire on the MSM big time! :D

Funny how the same newspaper who vindicated him years ago is saying this now.

How quickly we forget the past.

If you people let this go so will the press. They are more than likely coming here to find out the hot issues...

That's true, which is why, if you still trust Paul, it's in your best interest to ignore my post and everyone who criticizes the campaign. It will only bring those threads up the chain rather than bury them. Ignorance is bliss. Although it could bite you in the ass too.

That's a fantastic strategy. The campaign HQ should send out a press release, "Dr. Paul didn't write the newsletters and has no idea who did, but stands by their content as 100% factual". That way he gets to admit to being a racist AND a clueless manager.

The "ghost writer" is clearly Paul.

Are you from LGF or Wonkette? Just curious to see if I'm dealing with a anti-Muslim neo-con or just a stupid neo-con.

Also, do you have any evidence to back this up? You must know something that most of us don't to be able to say Paul was the ghost writer when countless people have come out and said that they know who wrote those newsletters, and it wasn't Paul (his ex-aide for example says that Lew Rockwell was the ghostwriter).

Please post your evidence with citations backing up this claim. I must have some sort of video and/or audio, I'm very curious and looking forward to what you can provide to shed light on this.

At the time he was saying that the comments in the newsletter reflected the statistics of the time. He was not renouncing the comments. So you can understand that when the story changes, so does the credibility, I'm sure.

When people start calling facts racism and declare they can no longer support Ron Paul, then that tells me they never did to start with or that they can't comprehend the difference between a fact and real racism.

Mike, if you are too ignorant to know the difference between facts and racism, then you will never have true freedom. I hope you can get the help you need.

Believing that black teenagers should be treated as adults by courts and white teenagers should be treated as children is racist.

If you don't think the tone and content of the newsletters was highly offensive, you have a saddening lack of perspective. Ron Paul is polling what, 3-4% nationally? You think standing behind the content is going to help win over John Q Public? "True freedom" includes the ability to not vote for a candidate who has associated himself with racist ideas. A lot of people are going to choose to exercise that freedom.

I think what he is renouncing here is the baseless allegation that he is a racist, so I don't see how his story is changing.
