Hotel question

To people familiar with DC:

I will be leaving later this evening (Thursday afternoon) so I will have all day Friday to see the sights.
I need a hotel for tonight (Thursday night) only on the outskirts of the city. I figure its pretty pointless to stay in the city Thursday when I will just be sleeping. I am staying the the city for the weekend though.

I will be coming from 70 to 270 south and need an idea of a safe and cheap area to stay no further than an hour from DC if possible.

Try going to priceline.com and bidding around $55 for a 2 1/2 to 3 star hotel near Dulles Airport. It almost always works. I'm staying in a Holiday Inn for $55.

Thanks! I ended up figuring out where the suburbs were and got an extended stay like place for $40 on priceline! (before taxes) It ended up being -$75 off!

I got a 4 star hotel for the weekend downtown that way for $65 - got lucky
