Hollywood film about anti-establishment investigative journalist ignored by liberty movement

In the 1990s, investigative journalist Gary Webb uncovered the CIA's importation of crack cocaine and was subsequently threatened by the government and ostracized by popular media. Kill the Messenger, a film based largely on Webb's book Dark Alliance, which covers what he reported on as well as chronicling the pressures put on by the establishment, is produced by and stars Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker, Bourne Legacy).

Though not a major production by Hollywood standards, I would have thought the liberty community would enjoy and want to support this kind of anti-establishment film, but I have not seen it mentioned on a single liberty website nor anyone in my facebook and Twitter feeds.

A trailer for the film is below and if you want to know more about Webb, I recommend this piece written by his friend and fellow journalist, Al Giordano.

Ummm........you just posted it. Every thread starts with someone posting something. I didn't know about this so thanks for sharing. But the liberty community is only as knowledgeable as the members in and their willingness to share information. I'm quite familiar with Gary Webb and heard him interviewed on Alex Jones and watched documentaries with him in it. I know the black guy in the film is "Freeway Ricky Ross" and that the rapper by the same name is a phony. But I hadn't seen the movie trailer. I will go see this when it comes out.

I appreciate that. I have emailed, tweeted, facebooked, and filled out contact forms everywhere but nobody seems to give a care.

Well I care so that's two of us. I'll try to get the local Ron Paul meetup (yes those things still exist) to make it an event. Realize there's a whole lot of distractions going on in the world. I'll give you one piece of free advice. I would have titled the thread differently. Something like "Hollywood movie documenting CIA drug running to be released" or "True story about the life and death of drug journalist Gary Webb to be released" (people around here know who he is) or ....I dunno. I clicked on the thread more out of curiosity than anything. The subject matter interests me, but I didn't pick that up from the thread title.

My goodness! This actor looks like Gary Webb!
