Hold the Line, Fall into Formation, and Get ready for the real fight

"Self-deluding" would be to think that he's going to win the Republican nomination at this point.

Ron Paul is not and never has been the be-all-end-all. This campaign is a beginning, not an end. And the best thing Paul could do now to advance the cause of liberty is to mount a Libertarian Party run, and start targeting independents, moderates, and the apathetic. There are a lot of disaffected Republicans (who will almost all come with us), but the simple fact is that they're still a distinct minority within their party. A Libertarian grabbing 5-10% of the vote in the general election would set up the pro-freedom movement for even greater successes to come.

Well, Ron Paul has repeatedly stated that he's not going to do a 3rd party run -- either he still has a chance, or he's done. I don't think he would lie repeatedly to his supporters about this.

He has also said in debates: He will keep running until he doesn't have the support, and that he hasn't ruled out a third party run and wishes the GOP would realize this.

At best his answers for a 3rd party run are inconlusive. He seems to be tipping his hat to the GOP saying 'I'm your guy, support me.' At the same time, saying 'you should fear the possibility that I haven't ruled out a 3rd party run.' In all fairness, months ago he did say that, He wasn't considering a 3rd party run as he wouldn't have the support needed.

I think a 3rd party run would be given a more serious thought if he barely loses the nomination, not if he gets crushed. I also think that his support, especially the financial side of it, will not be there to meet his stated criteria that he will stay in as long as the money is flowing.
