I love listening to Hitchens debate... one could youtube him for hours listening to his views on Religion, etc.

His take on Global Warming is something like a spin on Pascal, in that he says: It's better to behave as if global warming was real and act accordingly (and be wrong about global warming) than to ignore global warming altogether and be wrong, in which case tremendous damage to the Earth could result.

An interesting discussion

How many hundreds of millions, or billions of people are you willing to kill to appease the scammers?

It's also from 2007 so take that for what it's worth

Pretty sure they discuss the argument in the video I posted - if we could lower our CO2 output without any ill effects like killing millions of people and and significantly reducing our standard of living, then sure, go for it. What is there to lose?

The problem is if you look at the levels the scientists claim we need to get to if we want to save the earth, these levels create enormous problems that will end up killing a lot of people. So we want to be certain or near certain that there will be potential problems and that this isn't just some agenda, establishment driven non-issue otherwise all those people will die for nothing.

And we may actually benefit from more CO2. More crop yields, etc. I think humans will adapt

Many studies show vegetation flourishing with more Co2 (duh!!). Historically this planet has many periods of increased Co2. In fact it appears that the current level of Co2 is just above starvation level for many plants. Maybe this is the real reason behind so many plant species going extinct??
