Hey all,

The subject of purchasing physical commodities has probably been posted thousands of times, but after running a few searches I couldn't find anything. Information on this forum seems rather dispersed.

Anyway, I'm looking to invest $5000 in physical gold and silver to hedge against the possibility of future inflation/hyperinflation/collapse. I've been told Apmex is a reliable retailer for commodities, but they offer a wide variety of products, and I'm clueless as to which of those products best suit my purpose. I appreciate any and all help on what to buy, the amount to buy and where to buy it. Thanks.

i know if it were me with the 5000$ , i would buy junk 90% silver on ebay ( pre 1965 ) , you can get it at very close to spot prices.

i would buy only dimes and quarters , they are real , not fake or copies , when you want to sell they will be very easy to sell and when you do sell you will get very close to spot price like when you bought them.

remember all dealers must make a profit on the buy and sell , that is why i would only buy them on ebay , you become the dealer on both sides.

i would avg in with $500 a month for 10 months . then if the price is going down you will buy cheaper , if the price is going up when you buy you will be happy because what you have is worth more.

I would just go with gold and silver eagles to be honest.

You pay a premium for eagles. Compare the price of a one ounce round and a one ounce eagle. In my opinion bullion, either rounds or bars are the best value (though I don't know enough about 90% "junk" to really speak definitively about it). I buy 1 once rounds--Morgans and buffaloes--and 10 ounce bars. I am in the process of cashing out of my 401(k). That's going to be going for gold. I may get a couple of eagles just because they are nice looking, but, depending on just how much I have to spend on it, I'll probably be getting 10oz bars. Not very many, though. :(

Its true, but when you sell them back you can also sell them for a premium over rounds.
Just my preference, either way I think is fine though IMO, eagles or rounds.
I really don't think you can go wrong with either.

Pretty much, yeah, but I have no intention of selling any back. I'm trying to get out of paper, not into it. I intend to keep stacking and holding. The dollar is going to fail. I want to retain my wealth.
