Harry Potter got it right

I just realized last night that the Wizarding world uses sound money as far as I can tell. Gold galleons, Silver sickles, and Bronze knuts.

Surely if J.K. Rowling got it right so can the US.

However, Rowling is very liberal in her political beliefs, so her interpretation of currency was probably simply based on what they used in medieval times. For instance, Mercantilists believed in the use of gold and silver, but they were far from being libertarians. Plus, Harry Potter suffers the same economic problem Star Trek has in that goods can simply be derived from nothing, effectively eliminating scarcity. For Star Trek, it's a hole in the wall with a machine. For Harry Potter, it's magic.
