Actually, this is the kind of surveillance technology I have no qualms with. If you have an elderly person you are guardian of, this is exactly the kind of tech you might legitimately want to use. The security is probably crap and so Big Tech is probably able to harvest data from the device, but that's just a technical implementation problem, not a problem with the concept itself. The tyrant always works by supplanting legitimate private producers of goods and services -- public police supplant private security and investigators; public courts supplant mediators, arbitrators and common law circuit judges; public prosecutors supplant private prosecutors. And so on. We have too much public sector surveillance in part because we have too little private sector surveillance (too few goods and services catering to legitimate surveillance needs.) It shouldn't be hard to figure out why the single biggest criminal cartel in society isn't too keen on distributed, private surveillance systems that it can't control.

Until its all sold to the gov and used against us. Like the CDC paid for cellphone data of millions of Americans without consent.

With that logic, I guess Alfred Nobel shouldn't have invented dynamite, the Wright brothers shouldn't have invented heavier-than-air craft, and so on and so forth -- internal combustion engines, repeating rifles and every other technology invented for private use but which has been subsequently hijacked by the State to increase its own power.

Why must it be hijacked for state power? oh wait...
