It's absolutely ridiculous that I even have to say this, and anyone with sense already knows this, and it feels as dumb and self-congratulatory as saying "racism is bad", but here goes:
Hamas murders innocent Israelis, and many more innocent Palestinians.
They take out anyone in Gaza who opposes them.
They fight against any Palestinian organization that wants to actually negotiate with Israel.
Their leadership are millionaires and billionaires, many of whom live nowhere near Gaza.
They dig up water pipes to make rocket launchers.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that they do anything they can to stomp out any hope of peace.
It SHOULD be obvious from my posts that I think Hamas is bad.
When I talk about the fact that the Israeli government helped to create Hamas, and has continued to give them favorable treatment, and that doing that was bad, it SHOULD be obvious that means I'm saying Hamas is bad.
Hundreds of thousands of innocent human beings are going to die. Millions more will be traumatized for life.
If we can't have serious discussions about how things got here, and instead pretend that every member of one side is good and every member of the other side is bad, we'll never be able to learn from this.
If we accuse anyone who tries to discuss this seriously of "defending the terrorists", it only helps ensure that more horrific disasters like this will happen in the future.
And watch, some people will read this and respond "how dare you defend what the Israelis have done?!"
Because in war, the rabid partisans on both sides are mirror caricatures of one another.
