Buy liberty minded books and subscribe to magaines
Read Ayn Rand, Claire Wolfe, and other authors on freedom. Read the constitution and declaration. Read Liberty and Reason magazine, and Read books from http://www.paladin-press.com/ especially those written by Ragnar Benson. Read John Locke and Thomas Paine.
Keep and bear Arms, a necessity for liberty. talk with other like minded people. VOTE
Find candidates who believe in freedom, support Ballot iniatives and petition drives. Write letters to the editor whenever a new assault on freedom is made. NEVER allow your rights to be infringed. Find good lawyers in ADVANCE just in case.
Write letters to elected officals and supreme court justices expressing in good articulation and ALWAYS non-threatening your disappointment in their voting records or your praise of them (much more rare).
When you have the extra money, support these individuals like Ron Paul.
Buy land and a house and get it paid off FAST <10 years.
Be as self-sufficent as possible
And ALWAYS keep hope. We are still freer than 90% of people who have ever lived, we have TONS of room for improvement and are currently on a downward slope but it can be reversed.

This is exactly what our founders had in mind when they gave us the right to bear arms. It was the only thing they could give us that would enable us to fight tyrannical government. They knew the other freedoms would not last, so maybe, just maybe, the right to bear arms would protect us.

No, it isn't that bad, and that's not what the OP said, the issue is the road were going down. America is no longer the land of the free that it was just a short 20 years ago. Where will we be in 10 more years?
To the OP- we really don't know what is ahead, IMHO, it is wise to balance the bad of what could be with the good of what you do have- it can keep you sane. Still, you must look to the future with reality and accept what is to come (I can only guess what that is) and be ready for it. Be strong. For many, a Dr. Paul presidency will be a turn away from this wrong direction which is why we fight so much. It is that important to us, for the future of all.

I heard Naomi Wolfe say in an interview recently, "We're moving towards Hitler." HA! If you read history, you'll realize that Hitler actually CARED about his own countrymen. Last time I checked 99% of our current elected representatives were trying to destroy our country.

I'm as afraid of that "knock at the door" as the next guy. Statistically, a good percentage of us will probably see that day - either on a personal level, or more horrifyingly on a mass level. But that doesn't mean we can just roll over and play dead.
If we give up now - if we let fear control us - if we stop speaking out because we're afraid we'll be next ... then they've won. And if they win: THEY WILL GET ALL OF US.
We can do what we can now. We can speak out, we can spread the word. We can prepare ourselves for the worst and pray for the best.

Hmmm..easy to say buy a house and get out of debt, not so easy to do, but good advice, nonetheless.
Thing is, most of us good people, I mean REALLY good people, aren't rich. Sure, I coulda been a lawyer, or applied myself in the corporate world, which is really just about forcing our economy to grow more and more and more each year to keep up with all this artificial debt and credit...but I'm a creative type of person, who would be happy doing a little toil to live humbly...but if you don't wanna be a jackrabbit go-getter, the system demands that we toil 40 hours a week, with only a week off per year.
Most people call that normal work, and if you complain, you're called lazy. Hell, how much work do the bankers do? How much work do the Bush daughters do, after their great-grandfather made the family fortune dealing with Nazis?
As spelled out in the book Rich Dad, Poor Dad, rich people don't work for money...and are taught, early on, how to scam, exploit, and deal to keep a fortune and make it grow, all without working.
Those of us who do not, also like to be prosperous, and we're not stupid, either. We just don't believe in getting something for nothing...the people who rule us are just devious, and have no conscience.
They build and build and build on their fortunes, and make evil friends with each other. John D Rockefeller said, "Competition is sin." These people are close to taking over everything.
What am I doing? Hell, I'm unemployed because I fight with everybody I work with, because working for shitty wages stinks. I'll do the job, but don't try to push me around, man. So, here I am, typing away at another Ron Paul board because I'd rather do this than drink or watch TV, because if Ron Paul gets in, the THIEVES such as those who run the Fed will be on the run, along with the IRS, and all the anti-free market, monopoly capitalists (build factories in China to dump good here) will be in for it, too.
Who can see the future? I'm pulling for Ron Paul, but if...no, I won't say it...
If I had money, I'd buy silver coins, medicine, vitamins, water, food and guns, and I'd be burying them in different places like a squirrel.
But, because I don't enjoy being a lawyer and hurting the poor, or being part of a corp that wrecks the environment and exploits 3rd world labour, I have no money. I know what to do, but I can't do it.
What the Elite wants is a destruction of the economy. Although I DO NOT RECOMMEND the rense website (don't even start to poke around that crazy place), it is where an article, called "New American Slavery" is kept, written by some anonymous guy:

The Elite are not even great people, or a master race. Just look at Giuliani–thrice married, and a crossdressing liar. Arnold Schwarzenegger–a steroid abusing, plastic-surgery getting megalomaniac girly man. Bush, a charismatic, cocaine-riddled puppet who can't even speak old sayings about "fool me twice" without fucking it up.
These people are just mean, rotten, evil as hell. And why do they prosper? Because we, the good, do nothing.
We watch their TV, drink their beer and work in their companies to enjoy our pleasures, while never bothering to support or defend liberty. We send our kids to their schools, confident that it is "the guvernmint," and not the banker-owned dummy factory that it is.
These people, who run the show, are just about to win. But we've got the Revolution brewing.
So I'd say this: Support Ron Paul with everything you've got, and turn on everybody else you can, but at the same time, get silver, food, and guns.
Me? Too broke. All I got is a TV with no cable, and my computer with internet. But if you've got some scratch, spend it on Ron Paul, silver, food and guns...in that order.

I used to think that my husband and his grandpa were the only ones who thought this way, but the older I get (I'm not even really that old) the more I realize that we are getting the big shaft.
I get worried about it all the time but you just have to prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best. Cliche I know, but it applies.
Get those plastic tubs fill them with blankets, pillows, etc. Fill them with food and trade it out when those get old.
There is a book called, "How to Survive in the Woods." I suggest everyone buy it.
