Hackers Are Attacking PSN and Xbox Because Christmas Spirit Is Dead

d68ndnugvqejmja6ascg.jpg

Since late last night, it looks like a bunch of hackers have been attacking the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live online gaming services. Merry Christmas 2014, everyone!
The PSN status page is currently listing its services as online, although the official Twitter support page acknowledges that some users "may be having issues logging in". The Xbox Live page, on the other hand, says that the logon service is currently unavailable. Or, in simpler terms, if you want to use the internet capabilities of your Xbox right now, you're shit out of luck.
The 'Lizard Squad' hacking group is currently taking responsibility, claiming that they downed both services, and won't stop until they get 10,000 retweets on one of their inane ramblings. The stated method of hacking is Old Faithful — a Distributed Denial of Service, which involves flooding a network (or, normally, some piece of critical infrastructure) with more traffic than it can handle. In this case, it looks like the logon systems are the weak point, since both PSN and Xbox Live are reporting that users are having trouble signing in.

So first you produce an insulting movie,, and then blame hacks on the same country that you just insulted.

A Nuclear Armed (feebly), country with an allegedly unstable government.

and this seems like a good idea to someone.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Despite President Barack Obama's conclusion that North Korea was the culprit, the Internet's newest game of whodunit continues. Top theories include disgruntled Sony insiders, hired hackers, other foreign governments or Internet hooligans.

Supporters of Spanish actors may have a motive too:

Hollywood Studios blacklist Penelope Cruz over Gaza genocide letter

Rhys Blakely Los Angeles
Published at 12:01AM, August 9 2014

The Oscar-winning actors Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz have fuelled furious divisions within Hollywood over the Gaza conflict by accusing Israel of committing “genocide” in the territory.
Pledges to shun the Spanish actors – believed to have been made privately by a handful of top industry executives – came after Bardem and Cruz, who are married, signed an open letter denouncing “the genocide perpetrated by the Israeli occupation army”.

Latest blame is on 'Lena':

Sony hack was the work of a disgruntled former employee named 'Lena'

Norse senior vice president Kurt Stammberger said the hack hinges on a woman he called 'Lena', who he says worked in a 'key technical' position for 10 years but was sent packing in May during a large sweep of lay-offs.

Stammberger would not reveal to Gawker how Norse came to such a conclusion.
However he said Lena would have remained 'very well placed to know which servers to target' after leaving the company and 'where all the sensitive information in Sony was stored'.
Lena - which may be an alias - then joined forces with other former employees and people in the hacking community to humiliate Sony.

Stammberger said the people who hadn't worked for Sony 'were individuals that were connected with torrenting Sony movies and content online, were targeted by legal and law enforcement arms, and were irritated that basically they were caught'.

More strage angle from this strange saga which some are calling a "marketing scam". But how could POTUS Obama get roped in this if it was not true?

The Natalie Portman-Ryan Seacrest Gaza Strip Reply-All Chain from Hell

f473hqnwbbsmibghvsva.png

I freaking promise you that whatever debate over current events you get trapped in this holiday season will not be as bad as a reply-all chain argument about the Gaza Strip, featuring Russell Simmons, sent to Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Ryan Seacrest. And I can promise you that because I have seen one.

Imagine being forced to listen to other people discuss the following question: "Is the Gaza War Really Over?"
Now imagine those people include Def Jam founder Russell Simmons, baby-resembling GOP talking point-scribbler Frank Luntz, producer Ryan Kavanaugh, former NBC and Universal co-chair Ben Silverman, actresses Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, at least three rabbis, and, of course Ryan Seacrest.
Thanks to emails included in the recent Sony mega-dump, you don't have to use your imagination:
On Aug 29, 2014, at 1:29 PM, "Ryan Kavanaugh" wrote:
The problem is that Moore ' law is kicking in. Before the summer 50 percent of college students supported israel, today less the 25 percent do. There are hate crimes against heed happening in almost every major metropolitan city, now including the US.
We have let this happen. And it's our job to keep another Hollacast from happening. Many of you may think that can't happen, that is extreme. My Grandmother told me over and over again remember no one believed it could happen and everyone thought the government would not allow it to. It took 5 years before the us stepped in, and 12 million dead.
If you pull newspapers from pre Hollacast it seems eerily close to our world today.

Kavanaugh, the CEO of Relativity Media and executive producer of The Social Network, was responding here to an email sent by Canadian Bacon producer Ron Rotholz, who, like Kavanaugh, has the habit of forwarding urgent articles about anti-Semitism and Israel to a circle of colleagues and friends. (More than a dozen such forwards that can be located in the inbox of Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton, who seems to mostly ignore them.)

A few weeks before sending the email, Kavanaugh, an outspoken supporter of Israel, had become the first major studio head to denounce a letter, signed by actors Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, that condemned the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip. He later wrote an editorial for The Hollywood Reporter calling for the film industry to stand with Israel against Palestine.

Kavanaugh and Rotholz's forwarding habits were irritating enough to Portman that she'd previously asked Kavanaugh to remove her from the list: "you should not be copying me publicly so that 20 people i don't know have my personal info," she admonished the producer. "i will have to change my email address now."

"Sorry," he replied. "You are right jews being slaughtered for their beliefs and cannes members calling for the boycott of anything Israel or Jewish is much much less important then your email address being shared with 20 of our peers who are trying to make a difference. my deepest apologies." (Grimace emoji.)
Despite Portman's entreaties to Kavanaugh, Rotholz seems not to have gotten the message. On the 28, he sent out an editorial from Bush U.N. ambassador John Bolton's think tank called "Is the Gaza War Really Over?" to a list including Portman (an Israeli-American dual citizen who'd recently shot a film in the country), Johansson (who's faced criticism for endorsing the Israeli company Sodastream), Seacrest (????), and, yes, Russell Simmons, who answered the Kavanaugh email quoted above with the most Russell Simmons reply you can fathom:

Interesting, that didn't make the mainstream media. No worries though, the real scandal of private e-mails being made public was successfully drowned out by "OMG! North Korea!!!"

Several French websites were hacked to display the ISIS flag as the country reels from the Charlie Hebdo magazine massacre that killed 12 innocents in Paris Thursday.
The black and white extremist banner invaded the websites of at least five town governments on the outskirts of Paris, including Piscop, Val D'Oise, Ezanville and Jouy-le-Moutier, according to Global News.
"The Islamic State Stay Inchallah, Free Palestine, Death to France, Death to Charlie," the hacked sites read as Arabic music played in the background.

Charlize Theron Negotiates $10M Raise After Sony Hack Reveals Male Costar Was To Be Paid Millions More

January 12, 2015

"Charlize Theron Negotiates $10M Raise After Sony Hack Reveals Male Costar Was To Be Paid Millions More"

After leaked emails in the Sony hack showed unequal pay between male and female actors, Charlize Theron insisted she get the same pay as her male co-star Chris Hemsworth for “The Huntsman.”
She succeeded, netting a $10 million increase that puts her on par with Hemsworth.
The hacked emails unearthed significant pay gaps between male and female stars. For their work in the movie “American Hustle,” male actors Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and the director David O. Russell all got 9 percent of back-end profits, while Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, the movie’s two female leads, were each getting 7 percent. (Lawrence was originally going to get 5 percent but her pay had been raised.) At the time, Adams had been nominated for four Academy Awards, more than Renner and Cooper combined, and Lawrence had won one while also starring in the smash hit The Hunger Games. Perhaps worse, in the email exchange Sony Pictures Chairman Amy Pascal responded to the critique that the pay was unequal: “there is truth there.”

A pay gap was even revealed between staff at the studios themselves. Among 6,000 employees at Sony, just one of the 17 who made $1 million or more was a woman. And while Michael De Luca and Hannah Minghella have the same job as co-presidents of production at Columbia Pictures, De Luca makes nearly $1 million more.

Israeli Man Arrested for Hacking Madonna’s Computer and Leaking Music

The singer called the theft "a form of terrorism"

Israeli police arrested a man Wednesday who they suspect hacked into Madonna’s computer late last year and leaked demo versions of songs from her upcoming Rebel Heart album.
A month-long investigation from the cybercrime wing of Israel’s Lahav 433, an FBI-like organization, led authorities to arrest a 39-year-old, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A statement from Lahav 433 said it worked closely with the FBI and that the suspect allegedly “broke into the personal computers of several international artists over the past few months and stole” unreleased music that he then traded for money. Police put a gag order on the alleged hacker’s name, though local media in Israel have begun identifying the man as a former reality show contest from one of Israel’s singing competition programs.

Madonna, who in December rushed to release six songs from the album on iTunes in the wake of the leak, called the theft “a form of terrorism.”

'Should I ask him if he liked Django?': Sony Pictures Chair Amy Pascal and producer Scott Rudin mock President Obama in new set of racist emails

Hollywood film producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures Chair Amy Pascal have been further embarrassed by leaked emails released as a result of the Sony hack, this time mocking President Barack Obama in a set of racist email exchanges.

On the eve of a fundraising breakfast being attended by the President at the home of DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Pascal and Rudin went over things she could discuss with Obama while at the event in October 2013.
'Should I ask him if he liked DJANGO?' Pascal asks Rudin, a reference to the 2012 Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained that dealt with the subject of slavery in the antebellum South.

Bad timing: The emails were exchanged on the eve of a fundraiser attended by President Obama (above) at the home of DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg

'12 years,' responds Rudin, referencing another slavery film, this time Steve McQueen's 2013 Academy Award-winning work 12 Years a Slave, a very violent and brutal look at the injustice and abuse endured by the millions forced into slavery in America.
