Here's another must read. It's long so I won't post the whole thing.

A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Dr. Ron Paul
U.S. Representative from Texas

Address to the U.S. House of Representatives
delivered on the Floor of the House January 31 - February 2, 2000

1. Introduction

The dawn of a new century and millennium is upon us and prompts many to reflect on our past and prepare for the future. Our nation, divinely blessed, has much to be thankful for. The blessings of liberty resulting from the republic our forefathers designed have far surpassed the wildest dreams of all previous generations.

The form of government secured by the Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution, and the Constitution is unique in history and reflects the strongly held beliefs of the American Revolutionaries.

At the close of the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia on September 18, 1787, a Mrs. Powell anxiously awaited the results, and as Benjamin Franklin emerged from the long task now finished, asked him directly: "Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" "A republic if you can keep it" responded Franklin.

This is definitely a great one to show people who are confused at the fact that AMERICA IS NOT A DEMOCRACY. It has values of a democracy in a general sense of a derived and distorted definition of democracy as simply "power to the people," but a pure direct democracy is equally as tyrannical as a dictatorship...

i know... when i was reading 'Foreign Policy of Freedom', and came across that part in this speech, that's what i said. :D:D everyone needs to read this book, and Pillars of Prosperity. I'm starting on that one now, hopefully I'll be done by the time I buy The Manifesto.

you definately do. if you are at all interested in getting into the political process, they are essential. hell, even if your going to be a very active participant in the processes you should.

With just a few minor modifications, perhaps Ron could give a close variation of this speech at the scheduled CPAC 2008 meeting tomorrow! :)

Way !

Ron Paul is the greatest American patriot that I have ever known in my lifetime. To think that I only stumbled upon him from a investment/trading forum because of Paul's reputation with traders as having expert understanding of monetary policy.

I could almost cry thinking about all those decades he spent virtually unknown and without support for the cause of this country.
