Gov. Jindal to deliver Republican address to the nation

WASHINGTON, DC - House Republican Leader John Boehner (OH) and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (KY) announced Wednesday that Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will give the Republican address following the President's first address to Congress on February 24, 2009.

The governor will speak to the nation from Baton Rouge. In making the announcement, Leader Boehner noted the governor's leadership and innovation in public service:

"Gov. Jindal embodies what I have long said: the Republican Party must not be simply the party of 'opposition,' but the party of better solutions. His stewardship of the state of Louisiana, dedication to reforming government, and commitment to bringing forth new and innovative ideas make him a leader not just within the Republican Party, but in our nation as a whole."

Sen. McConnell said the governor personified reform and recovery, saying he was a strong choice to offer the Republican address:

"Gov. Jindal's leadership during a time of recovery in Louisiana, his commitment to real government reform, and his protection of hardworking American families make him an excellent choice to offer Republican solutions for the challenges which lay ahead."

Jindal opposes the legalization of same-sex marriage, and has voted for the Federal Marriage Amendment to restrict marriage to a union between one man and one woman. In December 2008, Jindal announced the formation of the Louisiana Commission on Marriage and Family, including individuals representing organizations that oppose same-sex marriage, including Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, Gene Mills, the executive director of the Louisiana Family Forum and Mike Johnson, senior legal counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.

Jindal voted yes on making the PATRIOT Act permanent, voted in favor of the 2006 Military Commissions Act, supported a constitutional amendment banning flag burning, and voted for the Real ID Act of 2005.

In 2006, Jindal voted with the Republican Caucus 97 percent of the time during the 109th Congress.

In 2007, Jindal led the Louisiana delegation in Congressional earmark funding. According to Taxpayers for Common Sense, in 2007, Jindal's earmark funding was 14th among all Congressmen. As Governor in 2008, Jindal used his line item veto to strike $16 million in earmarks from the state budget while allowing $30 million in legislator added spending.

Jindal supports the teaching of intelligent design in public schools.

On June 25, 2008, Jindal signed the "Sex Offender Chemical Castration Bill", authorizing the chemical castration of those convicted of certain sex offenses.

How stupid do Boehner and McConnel think we are? This guy's not about reforming the GOP at all! This is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to give the appearance of reform, without actually changing anything.

I don't agree with EVERYTHING Jindal does, but somethings I stand behind, and he is a good governor, who has helped Louisiana alot.

Thing is, I don't oppose states having the right to have different laws, in fact, I am all for state's rights, so I don't mind this being a state thing...it's when these laws and things are federal that I mind..so I am happy with him here.

My prediction is Sanford will be waiting in the wings in case Jindal becomes a dud. They must have a a few different trojan horses on reserve at all times. They may even have to groom another Reagan just in case the sheeple remain leery. I want to throw up. Jindal is a Stalinist asshole. The Republican Party is still filthy corrupt and the leadership only wants to do just enough to regain power and spend your tax money, instead of letting the Democrats spend it. We should have 15 regional Ron Paul rallies where we attend the closest one to our home and have RP make a Obama Response Speech at each one. I wonder if he would do this for us?

Oh, I know that he isn't.. and it's fine, I know what you meant.

I just mean that, me, being for state rights, I don't mind the laws being as they are here made by him...just that I don't like them being federal. And, that I think he has done great things for this state..that's all..

and like I said, I don't agree with everything that he does.. but for this state, I think he does a good job.

I do not, however, support those types of laws he makes for here to be for the federal government (which I know he does...)

I was just standing by what he has done here, and I wish he would focus his laws for HERE, and try to get them out of the federal process...I think he could grab up more supporters that way, ya know?

He hasn't been in the state in weeks. He is doing what he always did. As soon as he's elected, he neglects the office he just won then starts campaigning for a bigger one. Even conservative blogs are calling him "hopalong" Bobby.

Well, I am speaking of the laws that he and Vitter put in place about taking people's guns during an emergency, the leadership he showed during the last hurricane, bringing Nagin and that police chief to court with Vitter, NRA.... also, the chemical castration thing for violent sexual offenders (this does not include child porn, statutory rape, etc)

Also, the laws he put into place in LA I don't mind.. what I do mind is when he wants to take those laws into the federal playground..as I said, I am all for states having differing laws than the rest, as long as they aren't federal.

As far as he has told us (me and hubby) at rallies (we have had many talks with him and met him many times since before he was elected), he isn't planning on running for president for atleast a couple terms.. and he is wanting to stay in Louisiana as governor for awhile as we need alot of help.

Am I saying he can't lie(as he IS a politician)? Nah.
Am I saying I felt he was being honest? Sure.
Do I believe he is putting himself out there for running for president one day? Yes.
Do I mind? No. As long as he isn't planning on leaving Louisiana before it is corrected.
