GOP wants Rockefeller Republican NOT Huck!

*sigh* I really wish 9/11 hadn't happened....Ron would easily be the front-runner right now, even by the MSM's standards (as he'd be praised as being "the second Reagan".
I dunno - People might not hate GWB as much if 9/11 hadn't have happened.

I respect Bradley in DC's insights. However, I think it is too early to start thinking about forming alliances with Huck's army. Right now I think the ideal outcomes for Iowa and NH (besides a first place finish for Ron Paul in both states) would be for Huckabee to edge out Romney in Iowa and McCain to edge out Romney in NH. Romney has the money to survive a defeat in both states whereas Huck and McCain will not have the financial means to compete for Super Tuesday.

If Ron Paul can place third in Iowa, NH, Michigan, and SC (or higher), then Ron Paul will start to look like a viable candidate who not only can raise a lot of money from the grass roots but also someone who can consistently beat an establishment candidate (someone else is going to have to place fourth and fifth). The longer Ron Paul hangs around, the more time the GOP rank and file will have to re-examine his record and realize that he is the second coming of Robert Taft and Barry Goldwater and that maybe these other neocon/establishment candidates are nothing more than a bunch of doublespeaking, hypocritical, flip flopping, big brother government, big spending Republicrats.

People say Huck is not a Rockefeller Republican, but then we see him being advised by the chairman of Rockefeller's Council on Foreign Relations.

At the risk of aggravating people here, I think we need to consider building alliances with Huck's army. Please, hear me out. I worked on the Forbes campaign's in 1996 and 2000 and many of my friends worked on the Buchanan campaigns. All of us would have liked Forbes or Buchanan over Dole and then Bush. By dividing the "grassroots" or "anti-establishment" votes, we let the establishment ones secure the nominations. This is a topic of conversation I've been having for months with some friends--veterans of those races.

Given that some states (or some parts of the delegates within states) are winner take all, we would be better off joining the grassroots campaigns together than allowing the establishment ones (Rudy) to sail to a coronation. For example, we're doing better in WV than Hucklebee, but the establishment there could still pull it off for Romney. If we aren't doing as well in another state that he could we win, we could join together and us take WV winner-take-all AL and pull our support for Huck in another place where we're not likely to win any delegates but we could stop the Rockafellers.

How, exactly, this might all play out, I'm not sure.

I would think this type of politicking would have to be done by the folks in charge of the national campaign, not us grassroots. Of course the decision has to be made by Ron Paul himself. I am not for deliberately insulting anyone's supporters, it's counter productive in the long run and not the type of behaviour Ron Paul himself uses. I would just ask that grassroots folks be civil towards those they are trying to convince.

It does make my stomach churn to think about an alliance with Huck

I don't think we should have an alliance with Huck at all.

Huck's Army however, is different. They are mostly good people who just don't know any better. We should try to foster a good relationship with them. The better relationship we have with them, the more of them will end up supporting Ron Paul when Huck falls from glory.
