A platform fight at the convention could disrupt that carefully choreographed effort by highlighting the stark differences in vision for the party separating McCain from some of the GOP's most dedicated activists.

The battle may not be avoidable. The current GOP platform is a 100-page document, and all but nine pages mention Bush's name. Virtually the entire platform will have to be rewritten to lessen the imprint of the president, who has the highest disapproval rating of any White House occupant since Richard M. Nixon.

It is the prospect of a total rewrite that worries some...

I just skimmed through the article real fast. But the GOP needs to change their name, stop calling themselves Republicans since a vast majority of them are not for a republic. If they are going to considering continuing on the neo-con path they need to rewrite their platform for sure. They need to stop being phonies and be real for once!

They do this for EVERY president. This time shouldn't be too hard. Especially since all they have to hit is: Ctrl+f, click the replace tab, Enter George W. Bush into the Find What field, Type John S. McCain in the Replace w/ field, click replace all.

Then add a few sentences in an attempt to try to convert the obamaiites; and maybe the odd wording of a sentence that the media will probably praise and claim it is being used to "unite the party" and solve the "Ron Raul problem". Then I; like many others, will laugh when some sheeple tells me that I must FolloW McClame in a zombie like voice; I will probably vomit. I will then try to educate them on why they are way off. I will let them know how bad we are being screwed and they might listen or they might go watch faux.

I don't see what the big deal is about platforms. It's not like they are followed.

But ever since nominees have taken control of the parties, I think they do this for every nominee.

I mean, how would the Republicans look if their platform was all anti-war and yet they nominated a pro-war candidate?

Not much, unless the GOP is decimated enough to be remolded after this election. It is critical that McCain and other GOP neo-cons suffer crushing defeats. Hopefully Barr will pick up a significant percentage so that it can't all be attributed to Obama hysteria.

Oh, they'll have an easy enough time of it. Take last cycle's Democratic Party platform, add thirteen thousand words of homage to the psycho McCain, and print.

I remember when the Republicans were so conservative they had to use the Democratic platform from three or four elections back...

At a local Farmer's Market in Longmont Colorado, I was working the GOP Booth...an elderly lady (I guess late 70's or early 80's) walked up to the table and stated that she is a long time member of the Republican Party, and she is fed up with BOTH parties...both D & R...she also stated that " there are too many politicians and NOT enough Statesmen or Stateswoman "

Did you mention Ron Paul to her? I can imagine her response would be one of two possibilities. "Ron who?" or "Fox News said he blames americans for 9/11, I wouldnt vote for that kook."
