It's not just access to information. Young people can change their minds. With age, that ability is generally lost. Old people are social democrats. Old people are social democrats (aka democratic socialists) who believe in things like Socialist Security, the minimum wage, government health care, etc. They believe FDR saved us from the Great Depression, that WWII was a holy war for Justice, Freedom, and Everything Good, and that the feds were the only thing that saved us from monopolistic robber barons who forced children to load 15 tons of coal a day for negative pay, thus getting further in debt each day.
These opinions will not change. Old people cannot change their opinions. Thus, we basically rely on the oldsters' lack of concern for candidates actual policies and concern for superficial factors like how likeable the candidate is, how much literature he sends them, and how often he came and personally talked to them in their town and shook their hands. Luckily, we have a likeable candidate who is sending them lots of literature and working very very hard having lots of local town hall meetings.
