Good idea or bad idea?

It's been discussed on other threads that Dr. Paul needs to make the other candidates answer his question: what would WE do if another country invaded us? The answer is obvious, especially in SC. Remember the Civil War? Should Dr. Paul make this analogy, that the South was invaded by the Union? It would play VERY well in SC, the first state to secede, but it could hurt him in other states. It would be high risk - a win in SC would give his candidacy some traction, and this might be one way to get it.

Better to bring up what happened when Brittan invaded the US during the War of 1812.

I think he should avoid the Civil War issue, it only resonates with a small percentage of voters.

nah, he should just point out they need to do some magic with the troop numbers unless they want to go down the draft path... and then wait for their answer.

No this is his worst example he should not use it again. The issue is too complicated for most people to understand.

He should use the much more simpler version. A killer kills a victim. We blame the killer but to prevent it from happening again we need to understand why the killer wanted to kill the victim.

Unfortunately he can never get far enough to add to this... Which is OBL recruits people by citing the Koran as evidence they should defend a Muslim land from an INVASION by infidels.

The neo con solution- kill the recruits faster than they are created. ( not likely to work since to kill them you must occupy the land which makes recruits turn radical faster )

Ron Paul option- Pull out for financial reasons and to FIGHT terrorism. OBL will either be satisfied or will continue to hate us. Even if he still hates us he will no longer be able to recruit people to blow their selves up.

Also most experts agree OBL would target his own governments if we pull out completely both militarily and financially. This is because OBL believes on a level playing field he has a chance. He would be sadly mistaken though... Plus Ron Paul would have a huge bounty on his head.




P.S. - your north vs south is terrible because it can easily be spun to relate to his Lincoln stance. Which of course was spun to this: " How long did you want slavery to continue "

I think you are right. It is his worst example. I love the killer analogy.

He could also use an example of what we do when a kid brings a gun to school and attacks classmates. In my state we had this incident and locked the kid up for years. BUT we also realized he was bullied for years which drove him to HATE his classmates. So now my state pushed a huge anti-bully agenda. Guess what... we haven't had a shooting since.
