NY Times: Goldman Sachs owned 16% of the biggest forum for sex trafficking of under-age girls in the United States for years

THE biggest forum for sex trafficking of under-age girls in the United States appears to be a Web site called Backpage.com.

This emporium for girls and women — some under age or forced into prostitution — is in turn owned by an opaque private company called Village Voice Media. Until now it has been unclear who the ultimate owners are.

That mystery is solved. The owners turn out to include private equity financiers, including Goldman Sachs with a 16 percent stake.

Goldman Sachs was mortified when I began inquiring last week about its stake in America’s leading Web site for prostitution ads. It began working frantically to unload its shares, and on Friday afternoon it called to say that it had just signed an agreement to sell its stake to management.

“We had no influence over operations,” Andrea Raphael, a Goldman Sachs spokeswoman, told me.

Sheesh. "It is not our fault." We weren't directly kidnapping and sex trafficking girls or women. Our handlers were doing that.

I'll bet it pays big bucks too.

Why am I not surprised. If the Antichrist is on the Earth, he works at Goldman Sachs.

Remember the fuss that was made when that Black scumbag donated to RP in '07, and everyone demanded he return it? We should demand the same from Obamney and every other pol on the receiving end, unless they don't mind keeping funds from child prostitution slavers.

Every time there is a story like this on craigslist or backpage I wander over there and see if the accusations are accurate. Yes, they both have ads for call girls along with TONS of ads for everything else. It's pretty rare to find a ad for someone 18 or 19. Almost 100% of the ads have pictures of the girl offering her services and they are allmost all well into their 20's or early 30's. I've yet to see a picture that could conceivably be underage.

Craigslist screwed up under pressure of some of these articles, as they used to have an adult services section where they could keep an eye on these things but they shut it down. So the ads moved into all sorts of other sections where it's impossible to keep track of them.

What this is is propaganda. Every single time one of these articles is released, it is soon followed by legislation for more laws or additional funding "to protect the children" (The trojan horse of choice for stealing civil rights). DoJ and the center for missing and exploited children LIE so much on this topic that they make the Brady Campaign look really honest. As an example, I remember seeing a stat of the number of teen girls (12-17yo) who were turning tricks. I'm talking those living at home in suburbia, not runaways. It seemed a bit high. After looking up some demographics, it turned out that they were claiming one in ten TWELVE to 17yo teen girls were selling their bodies. Rrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigghhhttt!

Yep, and guess what will happen to Goldman? Fucking nothing, that's what. Know what would happen if Goldman hired pimps in public? Nothing, that's what.

Not that I know of any at all, but I have a hard time believing that.

Sailing, where did you find this article? Is it in the current news agrigators?

The story is old. Most versions of it were released April 1st, 2012.

The joke is on the American people for buying this BS.

Oh gee!, what is this?

GOP lawmaker looks to shut down sex trafficking through Backpage.com

Freshman Rep. Robert Turner (R-N.Y.) on Monday introduced a resolution that calls on the owners of Backpage.com to eliminate the "adult entertainment" section of its online classified advertising pages, which he and other members of Congress have said leads to child prostitution and sex trafficking.

Backpage.com is owned by Village Voice Media Holdings, and Turner's resolution, H.Res. 646, outlines the recent wave of public pressure against Village Voice to terminate its adult-themed classified ads. It also lists eight specific examples of people who were arrested for sex trafficking, all of whom used Backpage.com to advertise.

The resolution has no co-sponsors yet, but is likely to collect some, as other members of Congress have sought to increase pressure on the website. In April, Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.) called on Attorney General Eric Holder to quickly establish a human trafficking task force, and pressed him specifically to take action against Backpage.com.

I got it off twitter, and posted it because I hadn't seen it before and thought Goldman Sachs scrambling like that in front of the NY times was hilarious.

Sex trafficking of underage girls: WRONG!

Making hamburger meat of underage girls: PERFECTLY OK!

backpage dot com?
the folks at red light district are gonna be pissed that they're not first

As to Goldmans knowledge and involvement with that section of the site, this is the most damning part of the article - and it's not that damning.

A Goldman managing director, Scott L. Lebovitz, sat on the Village Voice Media board for many years. Goldman says he stepped down in early 2010.

lehman bros did not have this in their portfolio and they were thrown to the wolves
but goldman sachs survived the turmoil BECAUSE of their portfolios and connections?

et’s back up for a moment. There’s no doubt that many escort ads on Backpage are placed by consenting adults. But it’s equally clear that Backpage plays a major role in the trafficking of minors or women who are coerced. In one recent case in New York City, prosecutors say that a 15-year-old girl was drugged, tied up, raped and sold to johns through Backpage and other sites.

Backpage has 70 percent of the market for prostitution ads, according to AIM Group, a trade organization.

Village Voice Media makes some effort to screen out ads placed by traffickers and to alert authorities to abuses, but neither law enforcement officials nor antitrafficking organizations are much impressed. As a result, pressure is growing on the company to drop escort ads.

So the problem is a legal website which a minority use to conduct underage sex trafficking. And the issue is the site doesn't report enough back to government.

This seems like a libertarian dilemma.

Are these guys so out of touch that they don't read the sports section of the newspaper, or any of the underground rags?

Village Voice is a prominent free newspaper in New York. It's not some mysterious shell corporation that was set up to shield Goldman Sachs from Backpage. Sorry to burst everyone's bubble....
