Gold Bullion Market Yearly Average Price (1833 - Present)

You know, today I was on the federal reserve website today and I was wondering, what the hell is the supposed purpose of the fed? I know that it was sold to the public back in 1913 as being a stablizing force to prevent depressions. Based on their job performance I think we have a clear case for firing them.

Wait wait wait..... the Fed's involved in this caper??!?!?!

A lady on a local Chicago TV show tells me that the Fed's job is to collect the old and worn money from the banks & then give them new money so that it'll work better in our atm & vending machines. YEA!

that sounds like a fun job description. i think i qualtify... maybe.

of course not, Thomas Woodrow Wilson gave us the Fed, Income Tax (again) and WWI.

Oh I totally agree, but from the graph it seems that gold really didn't start taking off until Nixon removed the last tie between gold and the dollar back in 1973.

But you are correct, his was just one of many bad decisions made by Presidents going back to Wilson the traitor who sold the USA to the bankers and lied us into WWI.

And of course in 1973 it was STILL "illegal" for average American citizens to own gold ( with a few sneaky exception loopholes ). Thanks for the fraud and blatant robbery, FDR. :p

Oh so now it's our fault for starting to buy gold again after it was made legal for us to do so?

We pushed the price up by our reckless gold buying frenzy?

end sarcasm.

After two generations of being illegal to own gold I guess most people simply forgot about it as an investment.

How likely do we think this will happen again?

Especially if the push towards the Amero picks up steam.

Won't the banks and the government have to get the gold and silver out of our hands to cut down on the inevitable black market that will develop?

It seems highly probable to me.

Here's another interesting article analysis concerning the gold confiscation threat.

I've printed out a graph for my wall, but the numbers are unsourced, unfortunately.

I think this is the kind of graph we're looking for. I used an inflation calculator I found on the web to compute the values that were earlier posted - in 2008 dollars. Here's the graph I got. As I understand, pre-1913, the plots would stay even with each other because the dollar was on a 1:1 ratio with an ounce of gold. Also, a lot of people believe that the inflation-adjusted price for gold back in 1980 was actually closer to 2,200 or more?? I couldn't find a graph on the web that showed gold hitting that point but if somebody gave me the REAL inflation numbers, I'm sure I could do it.

Anybody know where I can find the LEGITIMATE inflation numbers since 1913? I'm looking for numbers so when applied to gold in 1980, it's value in 2008 dollars is over 2,000. However, nothing I can find shows that.

If somebody can find a legitimate graph that shows gold hitting that mark 1980, that would be sweet as well.

This website bothers me because it goes by exactly what the government says which might be accurate to a point, but didn't Clinton change the CPI numbers a few years back?
The government has a very long and notorious history of fudging the facts, twisting the figures, and changing the benchmarks, but not the names. It's called smoke and mirrors, spin and bullshit, in order to cover their nefarious deed's tracks. It seems to work pretty well for most of the ............................ people.

Thanks!
