In that caliber I would take the .38 super,, though I prefer the .45.

.45 LC is hard to come by as well. At least on standard 9 it is relatively easy to come by. After a few hundred rounds it doesn't really matter, if it's simply a self-defense sort of gun it doesn't really matter. Probably will never shoot it regardless after becoming proficient with it.

I've probably said something or more about the .40 but I do not like the 9 and the .45 ACP is snappy depending the package. It's an excellent round for my needs. And the kicker is you can find it most anywhere.

I dunno how much slimmer the slide is on the g30s than the regular old g30. But the only handgun I've owned in my life is my Gen 3 model 30. Fifteen years and probably 20,000 rounds later, I've cleaned it maybe a total of four times, and it's never malfunctioned once. LOVE IT.

I have slept with a Glock 23 with an empty chamber on bed next to me for many years.It is perfectly safe in that condition and I figure if something ever comes up where I don't have time to rack the slide,I'm probably dead anyway.

There are no incidents I've ever seen involving a GLOCK or similar design pistol which aren't a matter of negligence. I've seen plenty of examples where a dipshit "dry fired" without checking the chamber and with the muzzle covering his own hand.
The trigger safety practically ensures that the one and only way to make a round come out of that barrel is by pulling the trigger.

I used to be bothered by it, but then I realized: don't wanna shoot yourself? Don't point it at yourself and pull the trigger.
It really is that simple. Treat it like it's... I dunno, maybe... a gun.... and there's no problem.

There are also plenty of incidences where people including many cops have shot themselves with Glocks.I would never sleep with a Glock in the bed next to me with a loaded chamber.

There has never,ever been an incident where a Glock or any other semiautomatic pistol with an empty chamber fired a round with or without negligence,sleepwalking or dropping it from the top of the Empire State Building without racking the slide first.

Not that I would recommend it for concealed carry or any other purpose where you might need it instantly,but nothing is safer than a semi-auto pistol or shotgun or pump shotgun with an empty chamber for home defense.
