This is a real problem for the liberty movement, people don't seem willing to share the spotlight at all. We'd all be cheerleading Rand like there is no tomorrow if he were out there and this was his idea but since it's Ted Cruz he's obviously an establishment plant and secret Trotskyite hell bent on derailing Rand's future presidential run in 2016 by stealing his thunder by being even more extreme. I imagine the same people freaking out about Ted Cruz are the same people that freaked out about Gary Johnson.
Rand and Ted are allies and if Ted does run in 2016 which I am not convinced he will, I think it will help Rand. If you can support Ted Cruz then it shouldn't be that much of a stretch to support Rand and I hope that Ted would endorse Rand if he were to run and drop out since I know Rand would. I'd much rather have Cruz and Rand polling near the top of the field than just Rand and Rubio + Bush + Christie + Ryan.
My problem with Ted Cruz isn't "He's not Rand." Its not going to happen, but if Amash or Massie were to run in the GOP primary, I'd actually vote for them over/instead of Rand.
I'm honestly beginning to question if I was right to support Gary Johnson or not. I'd probably vote for him in '16 if we had another field like the 2012 field (Johnson, a pathetic constitution party candidate, a social democrat borderline socialist, and two Israel-first jingoistic warmongers) but I don't think I'd spend as much time trying to convince other people to vote for him as I did in 2012. Its still kind of a "lesser of evils" kind of choice.
But Gary Johnson at least seems to mean well. Ted Cruz is very good about being subtle when looking for opportunities to warmonger or glorify the military, but he's still doing so, and his loyalty is still to Israel. Just look at the tweets on his twitter page from a few days ago. Just look at his anti-Iran rhetoric.
This isn't really about Rand Paul at all. I honestly couldn't care less about him personally. He's our best senator and our best option, and I support him for that reason, but I would EASILY switch support to someone else if there was someone better.
I don't like Ted Cruz because he's not on our team in any respect.
I don't have a problem with working with anybody and everybody on specific issues. Ron worked with Kucinich on Iraq, and that was great. Rand is working with Ted Cruz on Obamacare, and that's great. But I couldn't support either Kucinich or Ted Cruz as a whole person, with all of the stances they have.
