"Give us Barabbas!"

Barabbas was a popular insurrectionist...I'm not seeing the analogy metaphor? What candidate fits this bill?

Rather than a fake messiah, the GOP cries. "Give us Caiaphas".

when Pilate brought out Jesus to the crowd of Jews, he asked the crowd who he should release to them (it was customary to allow one prisoner to be released). Barrabas was a rabble-rouser and had led an attempted coup which horribly failed.

Jesus had done nothing wrong. He had broken no laws, and He was the Jews' Messiah, but they knew Him not.

the crowd cried for Barrabas' release and for Jesus' crucifixion.

because of their hatred based on preconceived notions and tradition, they crucified their Savior.

He had broken roman law by proclaiming to be the son of God.

But yes, I agree, they crucified their (our) Savior. And all who do not accept Him will perish in hell.

Those who don't believe will they roast and burn as they jump from hot rock to hot rock. Will they live there forever screaming in pain? Maybe they bust their ankles as they fall down that hole? Will God be laughing as He and the starry host watch the torment? Will He flip those in hell over to make sure both sides burn or stand them up to get the bottoms of their feet? Does he love them?

Someone should take the audio from the numerous Jesus movies with crowds screaming: "Barrabas!, Barrabas!" and show the crowd from the 2008 GOP convention or something.
This is a great idea.
I actually turned on hitler/stalin speeches when the three stooges start talking in the debates.

Getting off subject -

"Give us Barabbas!" is a metaphor for people choosing the criminal over a true savior. Get it now?
