Giuliani's concession: A bad day in Florida

by Mark Silva

ORLANDO --- Rudy Giuliani, who repeatedly had predicted that the winner of Florida's Republican primary would become the party's presidential nominee, conceded in a sparsely filled hotel ballroom here just now that he has lost the Florida primary.

With initial returns showing a close contest between John McCain and Mitt Romney, the former mayor of New York -- who has banked his campaign for president on a big-state strategy that was supposed to start here in Florida -- is trailing the frontrunners by a wide margin. And CNN has projected McCain as the winner.

Jon Voigt, the actor, joined Giuliani on stage, facing a couple of hundred people standing in the hall of the Portofino Bay Hotel, where the cash bar stands as tribute to the financial state of the Giuliani campaign after investing millions of dollars on Florida TV advertising.

“It’s not over until it’s over,’’ a woman called out

“The great philosophy of Yogi Berra,’’ Giuliani said.

“There must always be a larger purpose,’’ Giuliani told his audience here. “Elections are about a lot more than just candidates… elections are about fighting for a cause greater than ourselves… most of all, they are about handing the nation to the next generation better than it was handed to us.’’

Giuliani said he had spoken to Romney and he commended McCain, as well as Mike Huckabee – and Ron Paul – “who won all of the debates,’’ Giuliani added.

“I believe that our party will be stronger as a result of the competition we’re going through… Win or lose, we are not done.

“We need to reestablish very, very clearly the idea that the Republican Party, the party of Lincoln, the party of Reagan, the party of Bush,'' he said. "When we do it right, when we are on our game, when we are making our contribution… we are the party of freedom.’

“This is a big party,’’ said Giuliani. “I’m even in this party… This is a big party.

“The future of our nation is in good hands, because it’s in your hands,'' he told them. "You and I will keep fighting to build a better future.

“No pessimism, ever, ever ever, just optimism.’’

On Wednesday, Giuliani is expected to withdraw and endore McCain.

As disses go, not that bad. He acknowledged that Dr. Paul won all the debates. If he'd also acknowledged that he'd won a majority of the straw polls, that he finished higher in almost every state, and that he won the most delegates in LA...

Look. Believe it or not, Dr. Paul will end up with some of Giuliani's supporters, the ones who actually thought Rudy's crossdressing indicated a libertarian streak....if we get the word out that Ron Paul is the closest thing to a libertarian in this race. One would think that, the slimmer the field gets, the more obvious it should be that Ron Paul is the conservative Republican, and the other guys are neocon RINOs. It's till our job to get the word out, though.

I think he was just trying to include him in the speech. Hell, McCain mentioned all the other candidates by name EXCEPT Paul in his victory speech. I thought this was just Giuliani trying to say something nice about Paul on his way out the door. Its not like they agree on anything, so the only thing he could point to to compliment without mentioning policy was the debate.

Ah well, good riddence. And to think they could have given us all the press time that they gave him. Until yesterday, this guy was considered a "frontrunner" by the MSM, when we knew he has been out for weeks (at the minimum)...

He didn't acknowledge anything, he was obviously saying that Paul supporters were cheating in the post-debate phone polls by repeat calls/messages.

...which just proved that he's an idiot (look at his hand gestures: he's simulating dialing a land-line), since they were text polls, not call-in polls, and you could only vote once per phone...unless RP supporters all have 10 cellphones each (the relative margin of victory over Girliani).

I stand by my statement.

You are right, there were people who considered themselves "libertarians" who supported Rüdolf... because on the surface, he seemed socially tolerant. Hell, I liked him until the debate confrontation because I didn't really know anything about him. Then researching into him and his "foreign policy team" *shudders* I realized that he would be tied with McCain for worst possible president ever.

McCain is the threat now. We need to expose him for who he really is before the Democrats do it in the general election. Right now McCain has this cult of personality that is propelling him through elections as the default candidate. People like the POW backstory, they don't even look at his abysmal record.

Julie Annie was being a smart ass, not admitting the truth...

Anyone who watched that diatribe can tell Julie Annie was being an asshole, which is pretty much his greatest talent. (Ask his ex wives, and political victims in New York)

Ron Paul should however, bring up the fact after the cross dresser steps down, that he stated in a press conference today that Paul won all the debates.

Paul should use Julie Annies two faced girly man like statement. He should point out the damn polls were tamper proof, and you can only vote once. And he won all the debates, pure and simple.

He should then say, that is why Julie Annie is no longer in the race. Because he is, and was, a loser. He should then go on and point out that the cross dresser is endorsing John McCain, another noted Presidential loser, from the last elections.

He needs to say that he is the only candidate left who is conservative, and who can beat Clinton. McCain and Clinton are the same politically. So voters will choose Clinton, since she is the first female to run, unless there is a political reason to choose another person.

That reason, is Ron Paul's platform.

McCain promises 100 years of war.

Nobody believes Clinton will pull out of Iraq either.

But..EVERYONE believes Ron Paul will do it.

The only chance the Republicans have of winning, is Ron Paul. And tonight is his LAST OPPORTUNITY to make the point.

Giuliani has no vision of the future

Ron Paul is bringing in new and young people(and a lot that wish they were old enough to vote)...4 years from now when Giuliani wants to run again people will still remember this election and they'll remember Giuliani

Did anyone else hear the crickets?

I swear it was no more than 20 people there with him. Guys, can you imagine the Ron Paul showing at the National Convention!!! I need to put my pennies together now!

The media is not saying, but Rudi kind of is saying right here:

We took him out. He fell victim to our Revolution when he fired the first shots at that debate..he was shouted down at his own campaign events so many times, you just know it had an effect. Its hard to portray yourself as the front runner when your getting mobbed by Ron Paul supporters everywhere you show up and none of your own people are anywhere to be found.

Maybe he can get to his reading list finally.

"Handing this generating to the next generation better then it was handed to us."

So thats why were giving them a $58trillion debt?
