Getting College Students to the Iowa Caucus

can we blitz targeted facebook ads the month of December and let those college kids know about the importance of the Iowa caucases? can't think of a better way to reach all those college kids

You need to identify all the Ron Paul supporters and where they will be during winter break.

If we can't get bands to say "vote for Ron Paul" can we get bands to say something like "Obama is running unopposed. Vote in the Republican Caucus".

We just tell all 18-29 year old that every 18-29 year old should vote in the Republican Caucus cause theres nothing going on on the other side.

Just drive turnout.

I would print out forms with questions of their name, email, address, facebook, where they will be during winter break, etc. for people at colleges to fill out. Set up a booth near the college that has a giant sign that says "SUPPORT RON PAUL?" Then have people fill out the form.

At the same time setup a website with something similar and advertise it in the college newspapers. Even advertise it online via Google Ads and Facebook and target it towards Iowa only.

No, you don't. That is very time consuming. Having some supporters in colleges identified is helpful.

The beauty of this idea is based on the fact that 60% of men 18-29 like Ron Paul.

The odds that a 18-29 year old currently likes Ron Paul is 60%.

More likely than not.

Once we know that, we don't have to target, or sell, or anything. All 18-29 year old males we drag in there.

The data you need is information on as many 18-29 year old males as possible who live in Iowa during break.

Obviously, the more data including whether they're a strong ron paul supporter the better. it certainly would be useful.

Yes, you do. You need to be able to contact them and find out if they will be in Iowa during winter break. If they aren't, you can then work on getting them to Iowa for January 3rd.

Nothing seems wrong there.

My only concern is activities in Des Moines (and other cities?) be prioritized. You're scattering those kids on the campuses to the winds. if theres nothing ron paul on the ground where they're going, they'll lose focus. A savvy, smart, tight organization should exist where there are bodies to be moved.

There is a lot of time for a leisurely effort to gather data from Hawkeyes and Cyclones.

Perhaps Des Moines Hawkeyes for Ron Paul, Des Moines Cyclones for Ron Paul. The Hawkeyes who live in the Des Moines area can plan projects for break in Des Moines. Hawkeyes and Cyclones can plan events in Des Moines together and with Youth for Ron Paul Des Moines.

What?

Work on getting them to Iowa?

Did you read my 60% number? We don't need to spend time on the phone trying to get someone to drive long distances.

You find the bodies in Des Moines. Because people who are partying in bars in Des Moines on New Years Eve are going to be in Des Moines.

You go in there, where there are hundreds of people and you do whatever it is you do to get them to the caucuses. Because when you walk into that bar, you know that the first under 29 year old guy probably likes Ron Paul.

I don't think we need to make it that specific to their caucus location. As long as we have their contact info or, less ideally, a way to remind them about the caucus like a Facebook page, then we can do GOTV.

Well, I'm talking about a grassroots project. As opposed to the official campaign.
The official campaign is going to do what it does to get the votes. They'll use the traditional methods that are proven to work, and they will have success with that.

You should be gathering data at the colleges and getting it to the campaign for their GOTV. So, you will be adding some names of people that the campaign will want to vote. And that's good.

However, it is typically pretty hard to get the kids to vote. If you just try to one on one sell this person who doesn't know where their precinct is because they've never voted, and doesn't know anyone that is voting, it just might be tough to get that person to vote.

If you create a herd atmosphere in the major cities, you'll get some results. I mention Des Moines, because that's the most important one. The limiting factor is likely going to be money. Keeping the focus on the most important target. If we find money, roll it out to a bunch of cities. Whereever the people are on Jan 3 is where we want to be, heavily, during break.

Have you caught on the when the caucus goes on, the kids aren't on campus. They will have left campus weeks before. I'm saying the focus, the energy, the money should go to the cities where those kids are.

The reason I say something like "Des Moines area Hawkeyes for Ron Paul" is that they can use their time planning the more important events in Des Moines on break.

They have to herd people on the ground in Des Moines. The "Des Moines Hawkeyes for Ron Paul" is where they plan ways to get their friends from high school, and people they barely know from high school, and do anything they can to get everybody they know in the area to the caucus, and setting up events, where they can meet new people, and get them to the polls. People who went to colleges out of state, people who went to colleges in Iowa not Iowa State, U of Iowa etc.

Youth For Ron Paul Des Moines, or the Des Moines meetup is where the main action for this should be.

Who can participate?
Anyone who will be 18 years old by the date of the presidential election. If you are eligible to vote for president, you're eligible to participate in a caucus.

You must also be a registered Democrat to attend and vote at a Democratic caucuses. Republicans also require you to register with their party to participate and vote. Both parties allow you to register or change your registration at the caucus site. So, for example, a no-party voter could show up, register and participate.

Des Moines Register is the biggest newspaper in Iowa (I grew up in Iowa), they are liberal, but reliable.

My point is that if we get contact info for them while at school then we can still do GOTV over break. Or, less ideally, having them "Like" the facebook page will keep them connected. College kids check facebook like 5x/day. Posting multiple reminders and meetups and whatnot would be very helpful for GOTV, as long as they are connected to the pages.

Also, if you want to setup activities for college students in specific cities over break, they could be promoted on the facebook pages. It would be a good reminder for everyone connected to the page to vote, including those people in the cities where the activity is planned.

Absolutely. We don't have to worry about any of that registration stuff at all. We need live bodies of people who live in Iowa. No one is prevented from voting based on registration status.

I figured out the number of Ron Paul votes in the 18-29 range, male, des moines. it was more than 10,000. More likely than not, a 18-29 male is a Ron Paul supporter. Use brute force tactics to move bodies in. This is where the Ron Paul grassroots which wanted to go to Ames so much could come in handy.

There's no need to be a douche.

Ok. Well, your ideas are good ones. I'm not against having facebook pages reminding people about the caucuses. It's something that should be done. I believe that the data you get should be fed into the official campaign GOTV, so that they can do the GOTV like they want to.
